Hey Im, I know this is kinda off topic but who are your favourite characters? I’d be right to assume Reiner and Zeke are up there if not on top. Do you have a top 5 or something like that, unless you don’t rank them which is fine! I was just wondering since we’re getting to the end of the story!

This past episode, this current one, and the next one make up one of the best 3-episode stretches in the entire series. It could seriously rival "Perfect Game" / "Hero" / "Midnight Sun".

I’ll definitely do a definitive top characters type list in one of the discussions 👌🏼

Very astute review as always! I loved the way you explored the mechanics of time travel in the show. Its great to see you loving this!

So you said that you want to rewatch "Grisha showing the key" scene from episode 1, but WIT unfortunately, didn't adapt this scene faithfully. In the manga we can see clearly that Grisha is looking very weirdly sideways when showing Eren the key. Both in chapter 1 and it's even more prominent in chapter 10 - when Eren remembers that moment. Maybe Isayama wasn't sure if he wanted to go that way with the story or director thought this detail was unimportant. Still what a mind-blowing moment.

It’s good to see someone with a great grasp of how the attack titan’s powers works lol, for me when this chapter came out it took me a while (and a handy reddit post lol) to understand that Grisha was basically seeing himself from Eren’s perspective. Very much on board to call this “form” of time travel memory travel haha. Looking forward to the next one!

What an episode, and the next one is even better. I love how everything connects. Leaving the father alive means that he will reach for Historia, meaning that Eren will kiiss her hand and unlock all the memories. Kruger speech, to save mikasa, armin and everyone else. This is the story that you started. Before death and after death. Episode 1 remade by MAPPA is beatiful, there is a comparison on youtubet betweet both studios, it's amazing how well it's made.

Wow! You caught that Grisha is able to see Zeke through Eren’s “sight” and also how he sees himself in third person. Great catch. 18 minutes in and we’re at the bootstrap paradox! I really need to catch up with your Dark discussions, you killed this. This was my favorite 1-2 chapters in the whole manga, I believe this was 2 chapters. Whenever you get around to reading all of Reiner’s backstory, I also suggest taking a peek at these chapters too. Not from a Manga Reader Superiority sense, but that I feel there’s a slightly different tone in Isayama’s paneling versus the episode’s presentation in the first half (pre-basement). There’s something a little sinister brewing in the paneling, you get a feeling something bad is about to happen with the way he uses negative space between panels. Eren kissing Historia’s hand is also very well integrated in the manga version of this - there is even more of a Time is a Flat Circle vibe. Another one of my favorite details is that it reveals that while following the basement during the first three seasons, we were actually tracking the wrong McGuffin! Grisha was talking about the Reiss family basement to future Eren while holding the key, not just referring to the basement under their house to kid Eren. Planned or not on that line... god tier shit from Isayama to make it count now. This was the part of the story, along with a feeling I had after reading the “That Day” chapters, that this wasn’t just a great story, it’s a classic.

idk if youve been told but next ep you should watch or listen to the intro after its done. honestly i would advice to *watching* it after ep 22

A huge read by you as always: Eren, the character who desires freedom the most, is doomed to know the unchangable future, making him slave to destiny.

The character models will most definitely be corrected in the blu ray release so I wouldn't worry about it much

there it is one of the greatest episodes in fiction. I really liked the way you phrased it. a before Grisha episode and the post Grisha episodes. Its important to note that this character who is so important to the story a character who always changes our perspective after appearing on the screen for a brief time is a character we only see in the very first episode interacting with the cast of the present time. The rest is from flashbacks and memories. You dont see that often. I find that incredibly fascinating.

One of Animes best recap episodes lol

Cation

You are by far the most genuine and greatest reactor in terms of paying attention and really breaking things down for us who's watching with you. When Grisha asked Eren what his dream was he probably answered: I want to be like Filmbuff

Eugene

You're absolutely spot on when it comes to the mechanics of Grisha's interactions with future Eren and Zeke, but I think the final scene was a little bit different. Because at that point, Grisha had just obtained the Founding Titan, so he might've been able to see Zeke through his own eyes for a moment.

Child of the forest

You are absolutely right about everything. Just one thing I would like to mention, which is more of my opinion. As you said that grisha and zeke were able to hug but they didnt actually touch, I think it symbolises the hug as "hollow" or "empty" to show how even if he redeems himself as zeke's father, the damage has been done. Also, I don't know why this was done, but in the first chapter of the manga it was shown that grisha was looking at some other direction while showing the key to kid eren. But in the anime they cut that scene out. It was a plot twist that was 10 years in the making. Amazing writing by isayama.

I don't think I have the intellect to explain this properly but I think Eren's will and predetermined path is closely linked to the idea of evil from berserk. The need for man to (sub)consciously forge such an entity like the idea of evil really parallels how Eren (in some way, shape, or form) was thrust into being the "villain" of humanity. Eren himself has realized that he has to play this role but I think he was able to find a loophole in this path (i won't go any further because then I will go into manga spoilers). I hope i was able to articulate this well enough.

Wolves

When the world's so Grey u make urself the definitive bad guy so the world can be definitively good lol
