Will Watches

Start of the Moffat Era, you can see some of the themes from his individual episodes coming in here, there’s some whimsy here it’s almost like a fairy tale when Amelia meets the Doctor, like with The Girl in the Fireplace. He also likes to give the doctor some grander moments of almost bragging the “look me up” from silence in the library for example

See I started Doctor Who in 2005 when I was 13 and even though I loved the Russel T Davies era… Matt Smith totally won me over as the doctor and he is still my personal favourite doctor even though I didn’t start with him A lot of people did start with Doctor Who in the 5th season as it basically works as a soft reboot of the series. But I can only speak for myself who had followed the series since New Who began that this era truly is wonderful. I love that whimsical, fairy tale aspect of it in just the first episode and I love the nod to Peter Pan at the end. A girl in her nighty being whisked of on adventures. Really looking forward to hearing what you think of this era moving forward!

My first Doctor was Three (Jon Pertwee) back in 1972. My favorite Doctor of all time & space is Matt Smith. I’m very excited for your reactions going forward.

Brilliant reaction - your face was brilliant when the Doctor & Amy went into the TARDIS. I’m so excited for these reactions. I love Amelia when we first meet her - a girl who believes in Santa so much that she is praying to him. I also appreciate you clocking the red and blue throughout the episode. I appreciate when showrunners associate colors with characters. It’s often subtle, but brilliant.

Funny thing is this Series was being filmed the exact same time David Tennant was filming The Specials.

I believe Matt Smith didn't really watch Doctor Who before he got the role, which makes me even more impressed by how he clearly studied and prepared extensively. Such a good example of an actor really doing the work and jumping in with both feet. Everything he does here feels extremely considered.

I too will add my voice to those saying Matt Smith is their favourite Doctor, despite having watched for decades (late 1970s in my case, with the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker). In particular the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond are my top tier TARDIS combo. I really look forward to your thoughts on their adventures. This episode also happens to be my favourite episode and in my favourite season. There's just so much they get right, at least for my tastes.

I find it really hard to choose a favourite Doctor, I usually put 12 first just because, for me, he embodies everything the Doctor should be. I struggle between 10 and 11 for second place, but I think 11 edges out by a small margin. Matt Smith just fell into the role so effortlessly, and by series 6 he's just perfect. Some really, really great stories in Matt Smith's run that I think permanently changed and defined how people view the Doctor as a character

I’m going to look forward to rewatching this with you! Splendid review and analysis, as is of course customary. As you sit down to watch the second episode, I would recommend you also watch episode 1.5 beforehand, it should be listed as ‘Meanwhile in the TARDIS’ on the blu-ray. It’s essentially an extra scene in between the two episodes. It’s really worth seeing! There are actually two such extras, they are called the same but the second one takes place between episode 5 and 6. So worth keeping in mind maybe! Thanks for doing what you do FilmBuff, It is so good to have you back.

Originally, my first doctor is kinda the 11th doctor. I watched the pilot episode and instantly regretted it, cuz I made a mistake and really thought that was the first season of new!who so I stopped right away and went straight to 9th doctor and went into the rabbit hole of who and now I'm stuck lol. But my personal fav doctor is the 10th doctor. And then followed by the 12th doctor. I can't wait for you to dive into Matt Smith's run! It's the most fun imo :D

"I am definitely a mad man with a box." I didn't know it at the time...but this was *the* moment Matt Smith became my Doctor.
