So I used to hate this episode for Near's sudden guess-work that Mikami is the second Kira. I kinda hate it even more knowing that Near actually deduces Mikami in the manga.

Last update of Death note for a while with march right around the corner I guess. Death note takes a hit in the story after 25. This is because the anime takes a lot of liberties to reach the ending. Honestly I used to hate the second part, but after watching it with you with a more open mind I can now appreciate things that I didn`t before (and also because I see the series with a new perspective compared to late 2007). and I forgot that I actually enjoyed some characters from this part that I forgot (Mikami hah) Even so, the first 13 episodes for me of death note are by far the best on the series.

I mean L deduced that Kira is a person in Kanto, said it on Television and then thought that Kira won't just leave Kanto and go wherever he wants to. The show is full of impossible assumptions from the start.

L only had that broadcast with Lind L Tailor be shown in Kanto at the time, so Kira could've only responded to it if Kira was there. I don't think L knew whether or not Kira would leave, but just observed how Kira responded to his actions and ended up realizing that he wasn't the type to back down and hated to lose, maybe? After Lind L Tailor, I believe Light began to use the prison inmates to communicate and mess with L and eventually give the hint that he was someone with police connections since it was also a way for him to close in. Once L began to look at the police and their families, as Light had intended, it wouldn't matter if he moved cities / regions. That played out that way at Light's behest, I think.

You could give a possible justification to pretty much everything. Its just unbelievable how it all plays out. There's also weird plots like Rem agreeing to kill L. She said she wont die but she can't know that. L was in pursuit of Misa aswell and it's safe to assume he'd catch her some point.

Near didn't suddenly guess that Mikami is Kira... Its implied he spent hundreds of hours going through TV footage of that program and figured out the things he was saying were consistent with "New Kira" (killing lazy people, everyone is a target etc.)
