lol. Didn't realize you were Canadian and then heard that "eh" going into the review. Cheers.

Couple of notes on this episode: * it fucking slaps MAPPA gave it a justice, I could never imagine it being that good * on a serious note. The moment Zeke catch Eren's head, there is these weird "memory fragments" as we call them. I would recommend you to check a manga panel, consider discussing this with a friend\partner of yours who dealt with that in a past. Although anime's representation is very artisctic and cool, manga panel has a bit more 'meaning' (?) in it. Cause you can just sit there and stare at the panel. I don't know if I make sense, seeing my name might make a hint xd. In anime im pretty sure close to nobody noticed this one 'unknown' character, in manga EVERYONE noticed them, cause that's very important! (R) Also, couple of things in that sequence are easter eggs, and should be overlooked in analysis. I've noticed 2 things: - goth mikasa & nerd armin - is an easter egg to little fun thing called 'Attack on School Castes' which Isayama wrote and drawn himself - naked men (center Reiner I think) - this is straight up a cover for magazine in which SnK was published, drawn by Isayama. There are characters in sauna, and we all know that Isayama was planning on opening his own sauna after finishing Shingeki xd Im very sorry if mentioning 'unknown character' in 'fragments' is considered by you as a spoiler (Im writing this alongisde listening to a discussion at this moment) edit: you noticed him! Im sorry if ruining the 'alternative reality' thing with goth mikasa for you is a spoiler xD

You brought up the Stargate sequence!! The music and the eye totally brought me back to 2001. Amazing discussion so far, I’m just so glad to hear another reactor catch that. The manga panels presented that moment in “shards” breaking apart instead of moments bleeding into the next. Hayashi and Omine owned that part, such a cool take on the paths transition

"...that was a devastating roar by the beast titan, the visceral impact of that was spine tingling" - (56:06) Ohh I'm sure their spines were tingling alright 😅

Great discussion for an outstanding episode. Same director as Declaration of War and Deceiver for anyone that's interested. Teruyuki Omine has been my favorite director this season. I hope he returns for one more episode at least! Gotta feel for Gabi and Reiner, comrades dying around them and they both came so close to stopping Eren and Zeke. My favorite shot of the episode is probably the one from behind Gabi as she stares at the chaos with dead eyes and tears streaming down her face. And the fact that Armin, Mikasa, Jean and Connie coming to help Eren/Zeke was the deciding factor is pretty crazy, considering they were struggling to make the decision in the first place.

Many manga readers were so upset initially because the neck shot scene ended up being in the middle of the episode, thus sparing the anime onlys from a cliffhanger we were all eagerly awaiting lol but you're right, there's no way Eren would've died at this point so ending an episode right after could've be seen as just a cheap shock bait. I actually really like how these scenes ended up being adapted. The scream and pure titan transformation, the shot, the moment frozen in time, memory sequence, all were amazingly done. Don't know if you would think of this as a spoiler (personally, I don't think it is), but the "goth Mikasa" and "glasses Armin" are basically just easter eggs put by Isayama (they reference his AoT parody bonus story called "Attack on School Castes"), although in the manga their portrayal in this scene was in a form of a very tiny shard panel. I have to admit I don't get why Mappa decided to make them so prominent in this scene, but there you go 😅

Somebody has to make a Faze Gabi montage and have Bodies by Drowning Pool playing in the background.

Gabi gang! I would almost bet on there being something like that already.

I really want to see the next two episode reactions.

Hey Im! Just wanted to clear something up you won’t get as it is an Easter egg for those who bought the official volumes. The whole goth Mikasa and nerd Armin thing is from a side story at the end of each volume where all of the main cast are just living a normal high school life, it is nothing more than an Easter egg so don’t dwell on it haha.

Part of the enjoyment is having these speculations and theories, even if they lead nowhere. You're right on this one but for next time, I think it's best if such things aren't confirmed or disproven.

Well yeah, that's the obvious. I'm not trying to spoil anyone, this was just an easter egg that would've left anyone confused at the end of the series if it wasn't addressed at all, it would have to be brought up at some point. I don't go around spoiling people, trust me, I want Im to experience this series to its utmost potential without spoilers.

Finished the discussion! Amazing content worth waiting for, thanks for the upload in such a heavy schedule 😎 I remember when I first read this part in the manga, when Galliard saved Reiner - I had the same conclusion as you. “If this mf Reiner is still alive after all this shit, he’s never dying” lol cursed to live indeed The connectivity of the “two brothers” theme throughout the episode is why it’s one of my favorite chapters and possibly favorite episode of the series. Isayama somehow united all the madness around brotherhood and it all flowed perfectly. King shit I really suggest checking out the manga version of this chapter to see the shards. I like the star gate sequence better, but someone commented elsewhere it carries different meaning to see the shards too. I agree with that. It feels like you’re watching it all happen at once Until next episode. My god

As to whether these memories are just easter eggs or alludes to something else entirely for the story as a whole are still up to debate among many theorists due to speculations on the anime version of the series, so I wouldn't advise concluding it as 'just an easter egg'.

Geeez, man! Your words and hunch is so strong that I almost thought you hold the script yourself. lol We finally here for "THE" episode where everything start to unfold. Who knows we have been on this journey for so long to get to the basement and find out that is just merely a key to another grand side of story. As for the pinpoint of Gothic Mikasa and glasses Armin, I think they are paying the tribute to the short stories at the end of the books in each comic digest format. You could check it out after the whole series is over. :) Until then, :)

It is just an easter egg. I haven't seen any speculation regarding them possibly alluding to some sort of AOE. Its almost certain it was just made as a nod to those side stories, and nothing more. People are free to speculate of course, but it isn't a spoiler or anything, simply just a reference.
