If it helps this is in my opinion the weakest episode. It’s a fun jaunt and not an awful episode by any stretch and like commented already it’s based on the first chapter in the manga. So the mangaka was probably finding his footing in the approach maybe. Or wanted the first chapter to be a big introduction.. but hey I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ Bizarrely the anime decided to make it seem that this is the first duel when it most definitely isn’t. It’s established that they have duelled before in the manga.

Yep, in the manga we start off with this and then later cut back to Thorfinn's childhood. iirc episode 6 is entirely filler so this would really be considered the original intro to these characters

Yamaguchi Kappei (Usopp) also voiced L in Death Note. Though his voice isn't quite as Usopp-y in that one. Askeladd and Light's dad also share a voice actor.
