Wow, that was quite unexpected for me as a first time watcher. RIP Chief Yagami

Something I found always found interesting from this episode is a cut they made from the manga, in the manga Light actually planned and expected Matsuda to be the one to receive the notebook and make the shinigami eye deal, and the Chief volunteering was something Light didn’t unexpected. I wonder is this was cut to show how low Light truly is as in the anime it seems as he expected his dad to take the deal or if it was just cut to make way for more important content, regardless it’s always sad to see Chief Yagami go.

Be Happy

I knew Im w gonna get angry against Light because of this episode 😄

"Mello's risky approach could blow up in his face" - last discussion , proving Im's prophetic powers yet again. Also, this episode has got to be one of my favourites, it just has that soul crushing bittersweet tone so typical of DN. Soichiro's fate is definitely one of the most tragic yet very fitting for his character and maybe even merciful, given the circumstances. As a whole I feel like the second arc gets a bad rep, mostly due to lack of L, even though ironically, L's presence is perhaps even more prominent and binding for Light and now he can't just kill one rival but he has to fight half the world basically. Oh well, the coming episodes will certainly be interesting and I can't wait for your thoughts.

speaking of one piece voice actors, did you know that Trafalgar law 's voice is livai's voice ?

Glad that you understood about all the copies of Death Note, it's kinda confusing for first time watchers (including myself), especially because the Ryuk copy was never in play till now

'deflating' is a great description of the general mood of death note

Leaky Peach

I'm more surprised that he remembered that one Shinigami's name that saved Misa. He was only mentioned by name in that one episode and was never mentioned past Light meeting Misa.

Despite the issues I have with the writing in some of the earlier parts of Death Note, this episode stands out as a brilliant choice by the mangaka. Light has killed plenty of named characters, and even resolved himself to kill his sister if the need arose, but none of those situations really served to paint him in an irredeemable light to most. Not only did he allow his dad to take the eye deal, but he also tried to manipulate his father on his death bed. That's a pretty easy sell if I've ever seen one.
