The writer and illustrator actually wanted to end the story to this point of time. But the editors and money makers wanted it to be continued so they had to change the story. After Death Note they made a Manga named Bakuman it is a series about a mangakas life. They put their chars in a similar situation they´ve beein into when working on death note, but this time they resolve this by killing off the main character to ensure that a continuation would be impossible while also maintaining quality and not fuck up the end.

I think the guy who usually has his comments about the interesting quirks in the Japanese language that usually get lost in translation can explain this better, but as far as I understand it, referring to oneself in the third person the way Misa does is meant to be sort of endearing and "cute".

Mmmmm... In a way, yes. It's cute when a child does that. Kindergarten, elementary school, maybe even in junior-high. After that it's just childish and dumb. Some people can still get away with it though. Like, a young and very pretty woman who's clearly weak in the head could go on calling herself by name and people would find it cute. Some "idols" do that as part of their image of an innocent child. It really depends on the person and their age. Also on relationship. Some people would find it cute if their girlfriend does it, but be appalled if random woman does it. Basically, it's what young children do. Girls, to be specific. So anyone else doing that is either truly dumb, putting an act to appear cute and innocent, or has mental age of a 6 years old. Does that appear to be cute? Highly subjective. I got curious and googled it a bit. One of first results showed questionnaire conducted by a woman's magazine on the matter. "What do guys think of women calling themselves by their first name. Is it fine or not?" 60% didn't like it at all. Others were indifferent. Again, childish behaiviour. Nowadays even kids in kindergarten are taught to use "I" (Appropriate variation of "I" that is. We have dozens of ways to say "I") instead of their names, so... Perhaps some time down the line it won't even be a childish behaviour anymore. Just a sign of dumb person. Which still could be cute. If a pretty girl does it. Funnily enough, dumb and cute are like two ingredients to make a person more likeable.

I love the symphony scene, LIght creating his masterpiece. I still really want you to watch the L's Funeral, it happens between 25 and 26, and has zero spoilers on it. In this episode they said "it's been 10 days since L's secret funeral" (because its a deleted scene).
