That shot was made for thumbnails. It even has a nice empty left side you can tuck yourself in while he glares at you with that eye.

Anonymous

This episode may be a little stinky but still pretty good

FILMBuFF

Lol yeh, I was working on a few versions in photoshop, but in the end I just felt like this shot was the one.

Sarah S

This should be a fun comment section 🍿

Anonymous

Fuck it dude, I'm saying it. This is the best episode of the season. Scouts' entrance was too sick

Anonymous

Why do you think the episode's stinky? Genuinely curious.

Anonymous

I just think some of the cgi was off in some shots but besides that it was great

Candy Z

I love that you were so conflicted over who to "cheer" for. "Porco, run away!!!"

Anonymous

Before even watching, i gotta say, love that jacket!

Anonymous

Of course you noticed there was something off about the warhammer's transformation haha nothing gets by you

Anonymous

Even if you thought the cgi was off (I didn’t even notice this), it wouldn’t make it ‘stinky’ in the slightest. It’s not like plot and story don’t matter. Just a tip - don’t try and look out for cgi, that will really undermine your experience; instead, watch it how it’s meant to be watched and just think about the content of the episode. It’s way more enjoyable that way. Sorry for the small rant lmao.

Candy Z

I love how you mirrored Pieck's reaction to the ODM gear.

Anonymous

This is pretty much all of us in s4, who do we root for now?

Anonymous

I always find that Im’s videos are the perfect thing to watch right before the new episode on Sunday. Really hypes you up and puts you in that thinking mood!

Anonymous

By the way, the scene that " seemed familiar " to you ( the boy under rocks when Mikasa was blaming Eren for his attack ), is familiar because you saw it in S3P2 ending (credits where they showed some " confusing " scenes ), one of these scenes is the boy dead under the rubble. :)

石原 悟

The more I watch it the more I itch to point out a certain nuance. When Galliard says "They're just humans, and yet they're coming to kill me", he actually says "These guys, are they trying to kill me while staying in their human form!?". The shock of Galliard being assaulted by people who are showing no signs of fear is conveyed in translation, but it misses the point which confused Galliard. He's so used to the idea that only titans are supposed to be able to combat titans, he couldn't believe Eldians wouldn't transform to take him out. He's not shocked at people coming to kill him per se, he's seen enough of that on the frontlines. He's shocked at Eldians choosing to stay in human form and still being dead serious about taking him out.

vera

Insane episode and that last minute, now that's a comeback.

A

Watching your reaction got me so hype all over again! Great episode and I was so excited to see our people again although it wasn't in the best circumstances. I was very conflicted starting with this episode. Falco has become a favorite of mine and I really like Pieck.

ArtficialFlvrz

A depressing connection to make is that Udo had always been so concerned how the rest of the world would see Eldians. He's talked about how bad the camps in other countries are, and how traumatized PoWs are sent back home to show people how horrible Titans and Eldians are, and he would get really upset talking about these things. Now in this episode we see him get killed not by Eren directly, but crushed underfoot by a stampede of ambassadors from all these other nations.

Candy Z

Fun fact: manga readers weren't given a name for the WH titan's user and we just called her "Willy's sister" or cracknames for years until this ep came out 😭

Mati D.

I love that part and writing, but i though that after he ate Ymir he would have that memories and part of information about how the scouts works. He even said to Reiner at one point thinks from Ymir memories, like he was acting like a Soldier and not a Warrior.

Rich

Im's reaction at 6:22 when the Scouts show up, fucking love it lol

石原 悟

Yeah, being crushed due to Eren making sure the world sees Eldians as nothing but monsters. The irony of sorts. The one thing Udo wanted to disprove actually killed him.

Elijah Carter

Your intellectual reactions are honestly the best, and you never fail to realize even the smallest things which is great. Watching you see this got me so fucking hyped even after watching it. Honestly cannot wait for you to see what's to come in this season

Shiro

That's really interesting...considering that Eldians are called devils since they can turn into titans, he feels so threatened by these mere humans coming to kill him that he calls them the devils of Paradis, they don't even need to become titans to take him down...thanks for pointing out this nuance!

Anonymous

The character designs look a bit off in this episode but they will look less chubby faced and more like themselves in the upcoming episodes. Mikasa looks very different in the manga compared to the anime and this design is more accurate to her current design in the manga. :)

Anonymous

Shoutout Clitoris-chan and of course Historia's sister, Geografia

Anonymous

Slightly off topic, but you mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist at the beginning. I'm probably not the first to tell you this, but that show is one of the very few that I recommend the dub over the sub. The dub for that show is phenomenal, and in a lot of cases, is more emotionally impactful than the Japanese. Anyway, this Aot episode is also phenomenal. Watching your reactions is one of the highlights of my week!

Candy Z

Ppl legit made me think her name was "Emma" for the longest time and was rly confused because I thought I'd missed something

石原 悟

I look at it this way. It's been established that not all the memories are immediately available, and not all memories will be accessible in the future. There's more to that, but since animated adaptation did not include, let's not talk in detail. Add to that the lack of combat experience Ymir had. How many times did she actually face titans in combat? Battle of Trost. Everyone got decimated and I'm not sure Ymir killed any titan. Then the 57th expedition. Ymir wasn't exactly on frontlines engaged in hand to hand with titans. In fact, Erwin did his best to avoid combat on the way, and Annie fight was kinda special since she was restrained. Then the escape from Ragako titans. Ymir didn't fight with gear. Knowing how scouts combat titans also means knowing the number of casualties they took while fighting mindless ones. Even Pure titans deal extraordinary damage and Galliard is a shifter. It was unheard of for shifters to be taken out before battle at Shiganshina. Now, remember that Galliard is baised against Reiner. Reiner is weak. Of course he lost to some guys with ODM gear. Unlike me, Porko Galliard, he was unable to fight even them. Weakling. Acting tough trying to imitate Marcel. Pfft. And hearing about such things as opposed to experiencing is quite different too. Galliard's experience stated that people are terrified of titans and definitely no one is suicidal enough to come at them with blades and stuff. Especially not at shifters. Extreme mortality rate of scouts that he probably heard from Reiner just proves the stupidity of such approach. So, yeah. Hearing how Reiner got his ass kicked was fun and games, but facing down Ackermans served as cold water in the face. Those crazy bastards were for real.

Anonymous

Try to keep those "if you thought this was great then just wait for *enter very specific episode here*" kinda comments to a minimum. It's not something he wants to read in general because he's said before he wants absolutely zero expectations going into any episode. This one's not that big a deal since you're talking about next episode and this one has a cliffhanger of the Scouts ODM gear'ing everywhere in Liberio so it's obviously gonna be a great next episode, but yeah. If he's on episode 6 and you're talking about how great episode 11 is or something then that's where it's too much info.

Anonymous

Im said he still wants to watch the Sub version first since it's an original production.

石原 悟

Let him listen to Hange Zoe while watching Alchemist, man)) Since he got exposed to AoT first.

KasaiKouhai

Is this the full opacity reaction?

Anonymous

I don't agree at all. He should watch the sub for FMAB.

Anonymous

Yeah, it's just that now it's included in the early access videos (these ones) instead of another separate post.

Anonymous

I love how you're cheering for both teams! And I love how you acknowledge that some part of the fanbase will stick to loving only the Scouts and say "Fuck the Warriors". It's just how fandom works, unfortunately. You are nuanced enough to appreciate how Isayama is trying to establish empathy with people on all sides.

Anonymous

That made my heart so warm! I'm so sad that other reactors are hating on Porco. I really felt for him when he realized he was out of his depth. He has trauma too.

Anonymous

Literally the first thing he noticed as she transformed. It was awesome.

Anonymous

Floch got extra thicc. Paradis Island must've brought in a good harvest over the last three years because that man's been eating good.

Anonymous

"Clitoris-chan and Geografia" OMG I CAN'T 😂😂😂😂

Anonymous

Really appreciate seeing how much you genuinely love both sides involved in this war. There are many who don't like the shift of moral ambiguity but I'm glad that you are able to see it as it is. Still one of my fave reactors!

Anonymous

石原 悟 - I just wanted to say that I only recently discovered your comments, but they always add a new level of depth and nuance to the discussion that is really valuable and insightful! Your commentary is honestly just as interesting as Im's to me. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your thoughts in the future :D

I believe that none of the new OSTs we've seen so far are made by Sawano. Someone said somewhere (can't remember where) that Yamamoto composed for the first half of those 16 episodes and Sawano composed for the other half but they didn't provide any proof or source, but if I'm being honest, I think that is the case too. All the new tracks are amazing, but they don't have a "Sawano touch".

Anonymous

ereh committed a major mc crime, he punched the enemy in the middle of transformation.

Anonymous

Agreed 100% - this episode legitimately made me re-evaluate how I consider the lives and stories portrayed in media (fictional or otherwise). It really drives home the speech in S3P2 that the guard who killed Grisha's sister gave about violence and how desensitized/removed we are from it. I felt sick when I saw Udo and Sophia and all of Liberio; I felt conflicted and almost disgusted by what Eren had become (character motivations notwithstanding); but this was only because I had gotten to watch over the Marleyan-Eldian characters and their hopes and dreams these past few episodes. There are so many more faceless and nameless tragedies throughout the show and in real life that mean nothing to us because of our perspective - just like how the Marleyan citizens never truly see the people on a battlefield or in an enslaved country as they celebrate the "good" news.

A

Yes, when Gabi said "Zofia?", I was truly shocked. I was not expecting it at all. Mind you we see her crushed body a few seconds before we even know it's her and I was subconsciously wondering who that girl was. Smh, it's so sad.

Anonymous

I'm not even surprised by Filmbuff's perspective being so reasonable and nuanced anymore. I'm just pleased.

Anonymous

"Clitoris-chan" cracks me up. Just because her brother is named Willy, they have to give her such a ridiculous fan name.

Anonymous

I think there are reduxes/remixes of Sawano tracks in this season so far, but everything that's original to the Marley setting (for example, the soldiers meeting their families, or the carriage chat between Willy and Magath) is by Yamamoto. I like it - it gives a much needed differentiation in the atmosphere between the two nations.

Ideophagous

I appreciate the fact that you pointed out that Eren would have lost one-on-one against the Warhammer Titan. I was honestly pissed at many reactors to this episode, who voiced their disappointment that the Warhammer Titan was taken down "so easily". They failed to see how the tactic used by Eren, that is distracting the Warhammer with a top scout fighter, Mikasa, as he analyzed its ability, was very effective in this particular case, and things would not have worked out so well otherwise. Not to mention that Lara Tybur is still protected in her hardening shell. People are so used to drawn-out fights in many Shonen series, and they expect AOT to offer the same kind of fan service to its audience. But that's what sets AOT apart. Its highlight and most intense sequences are not combat scenes, but conversations between characters that are so well set-up, they keep you on the edge of your seat. Of course, given the demographic composition of the target audience, combat episodes tend to get the highest ratings on ImDB.

Anonymous

Eren's actions in the Marley arc legit make my stomach turn.

Anonymous

Loving the love for Galliard!! I thought I was the only one who really likes Porco!

石原 悟

As one who started reading AoT and actually watching anime only since 2018, I spent same amount of time getting attached to Marlean crew. So seeing scouts appear here made me sad😅 I was like "oh no, they're here... Well, rip Zophia, Udo, Willy, gate guards and tons of people"

Anonymous

Any chance for the next episode to happen this weekend too? :D

Muhd Zulhilmi

As expected of Im. Feeling conflicted I feel is only natural. Sorry to hear you getting such comments on your GoT vids and unfortunately I can see it happening here as well. I’m honestly not big on gatekeeping especially so with SnK. I can’t count the number and types of people I’ve tried to rope in to watch this show. But even after the past few episodes, I’m not asking to fully forgive any one side, but if you’re not feeling even a little conflicted, it just feels like a waste and the writing is not appreciated enough. It’s not an easy feat to make the audience feel for both sides. But when you have a work that does just that, it’s a shame that some dismisses a certain side, basically dismissing the writer’s work. Many have also said how the Warhammer is OP. But I think she’s just at the right place at the right time against the right opponent. I’ve always felt each Power has a role in a war. If Founding keeps the Mindless in line, then the Warhammer keeps other Shifters in line. It’s crystal-and-cord method of housing makes it travel range limited during battle and also ensures escape is not possible. It’s a fight-here-or-die type. So, taking on hordes of Mindless is probably not it’s strongsuit. Taking on other Shifters however, we can see how effective it is. Not to mention, it’s look just screams “executioner”. Also, the slits around it’s mouth makes it pretty hard to eat anything don’t you think ? Probably why Lara isn’t really interested in eating Eren. Her job is to just execute him. Going by this train of thought, this could also indicate why, as Willy revealed, the past Founding and Warhammer conspired together. Their natural roles are probably to oversee the Titans. Also just like in Midnight Sun, love how you noticed Floch while many others are just annoyed by him. While I do find him dickish as a person, the trauma he carries is something I feel for him. I too find it ironic that he’s now following Eren considering what happened on the rooftop but I think this just shows his ideals don’t waver. He’ll follow any devil to hell cos he knows exactly what a devil can achieve, and man I can’t hate him for that.

R

In that moment when we hear the ODM gear and we see that first persion view of them flying through the town gets me incredibly hype

石原 悟

I recently thought that Warhammer actually could freely travel the battlefield. By holding the main body in one hand. Of course that limits the movements, but against any ancient/medieval army that would've been more than enough. I bet WH was extremely powerful on such battlefields, literally nothing would even scratch it. Just a random thought.

Thanos D. Alexioy

Eren is trying to collect Titans as if they are infinity stones...

TheStruggler

There is no specific way its "meant to be watched". The CGI is noticable even if you earent trying to look out for it. He even said besides that its great.

R

I'm still concerned for the Marley side but I have to back my scouts. and also don't forget man, sasha is going to be serious because they're here to kill people

Anonymous

Are you planning to release 4x7 this week too? Really looking forward

R

Yeah and also, I don't think the CGI is bad at all for the upcoming episodes. It was only this episode where the cgi was dodgy

Anonymous

Turns out Eren and Im had the same reaction to Lara Tybur. They both saw her and thought she was looking like a snack.

Rinne

Another top quality episode and reaction. Just a heads up - you should update the text on the pledge tiers, it still says you're reacting to AOT 3B for example and so on.

石原 悟

Haha, you can blame translator for that one too😂 The name really should've been spelled with a V, not W. I recall you studied some Japanese, right? Perhaps you remember this one: difference between ウ and ヴ. Latter is the one used in Lord Tybur's name.

Anonymous

Yeah I'm sure it's supposed to be Vili, especially considering in Norse mythology Vili is one of the gods that killed Ymir

Rinne

Only thing you didnt mention in the discussion I think is how brutally Eren handled the generals that were left there for him. The guy just bodyslammed some hundred people. You had quite the reaction to it tho.

Anonymous

Yes there are remixes of Sawano tracks, that much is clear.

石原 悟

I lowkey gained some respect for Marshal Calbi there, ngl. He took it like head on when all other high ranking officials immediately tried to book it. There's potential for looking into his character, I think. It's interesting to me that he was that calm and accepting his death by the hands of a titan kind he thoroughly exploited throughout his career. Perhaps he did really understand something different about Eldians that other officers saw as simple fodder? Makes one wonder. His half bored, half resigned attitude in the meeting after siege of Fort Slava... I wonder if Isayama secretly has a notebook of his background and character that he never used)))

Candy Z

Ah yes, "pleased, but not surprised" the much better sibling to "disappointed, but not surprised"

Anonymous

Is 4x7 coming sooner than Friday or is it still gonna be Friday?

ArtficialFlvrz

I always assumed the cord to the foot thing was just a choice she actively made since she assumed any opponent would go for the nape, and it saved her life because Eren obliterated her jaw, neck and nape within 15 seconds of her transforming, he wasn't punching her skull, you can see he's hitting much lower. If she wanted to be inside the Titan, she can probably choose to do that. No reason to believe there always has to be a cord and crystal, it just seems like an extension of the creation ability, which can be used if necessary.

Anonymous

Fun fact, in an interview, Isayama said Levi kept the blades and cape to showcase how he remains in the 'fliphone generation' whilst the 104th and the new recruits are now part of the 'smartphone generation.' Truly an old man/veteran.

Sarah S

It’s so fun to watch reactors absorb this stretch of the anime since you get a sense of how the themes in early Marley arc have really hit for everyone. Some people are hyped about the scouts and that’s it, others are torn like Im. I personally found the most entertaining reactions from people who are initially hyped about the scouts kicking ass but then remembering mid-fight they actually do like some of the Warrior crew and start panicking. It’s a real roller coaster 😂 The Warriors are all in my favorites of the entire series, especially Reiner (goat), Pieck, Zeke, Galliard & Falco. The anime really made Gabi and Magath a lot more entertaining too, and they’re pretty high up for me, now. Even UDO 🥺

Anonymous

I love the Warriors. Especially Zeke and Pieck. I have a soft spot for Galliard too. My boy Udo got thrown under the bus.

Muhd Zulhilmi

I didn’t think it was that brutal. Just the most... efficient. Surely using the full volume and area of the body would cause the most damage in the least amount of time.

Anonymous

Kohta Yamamoto recently tweeted that he made all the “Marley“ OSTs while Sawano is still doing the “Paradis“ OSTs.

Sh3nx

@xRyann_ you really think people are "looking" for the CGI, the CGI its right there and its very noticeable, what you are triying to ask its to not see the animation at all. this episode had terrible CGI IMO, it gave me an uncanny valley feeling that throw me off the episode. I`m glad only this episode was like that and the rest were much better.

Anonymous

Many acts of brutality are done because they are efficient. They are not mutually exclusive.

Anonymous

oh YEAH! Finally we will get some Sawano tracks. Can't wait for it! 🥳

Anonymous

When it comes to OST for the final season, i THINK i saw on twitter someone say Sawano is composing for the Paradis side and Yamamoto for the Warriors and Marley (i could be wrong)

James Decker

This episode was very painful to watch. RIP Udo, Zofia and the Gate guards. War is hell and good people dying is even worse.

James Decker

I like Reiner and Pieck, Galliard too when he isn´t acting like an idiot. Don´t know why people like Zeke though, as an anime only he just seems like a huge asshole.

James Decker

I mean, Levi wouldn´t be as useful with other weaponry. Thunder spears are slow, Eren would be toast in that situation if it weren´t for them.

Sarah S

@james I like Zeke because he’s so quirky and mysterious. He has a sense of humor in such a dark show and you’re always wondering about him. It’s more of a fascination and appreciation for his character but less of an “I LOVE THIS DUDE” response which is the energy I have about Reiner, in contrast

Karlsson

This is a small detail but Udo lost his glasses when Eren transformed, so he couldnt see to which extent Zofia was hurt, that is why he tried helping her I think. Although he may have also been in denial.

Anonymous

I was gonna mention this next episode! This is true but only for episode 7, not the entire season. Still a really cool detail they decided to do!

NB

But he always recognized her tights, or what? :D

ya ya

Its stinky cuz compared to the manga it is not as good the whole point of an anime is so it can look better than the manga but isayama set the bar to high lol

Anonymous

He can make a good guess where Zofia is. Just because he can't see well doesn't mean that he forget where Zofia was sitting before Eren transformed.

Anonymous

You are the only reactor who said Magath's bullet as 'symbolic'. It's kinda annoying other reactors don't understand Magath's intention.

Anonymous

The way this episode ended holy shit!!!! Literally had goosebumps man!! That boy Levi bro you gotta love it!!

Thanos D. Alexioy

Have you noticed the toys in the beginning of the episode? Eren sees those toys in his dream at s1 ep1! Awesome reaction. Cant wait for the rest.

bwr

The Paradis characters have all aged, that may be why the characters look little different, hair, face, etc. On the other hand, I'm not impressed with a the changes to a couple of characters and I've gotten confused as to who's who, particularly Armin and a female character, lol. Don't know if she's been introduced yet.
