Hey everyone, totally forgot to mention that I switched over to the DameDesuYo subs just for this one episode. They had the lyrics for the opening and ending. Back to the usual subbed version with episode 5, and I will be watching the official subs version of episode 4 as well, before watching episode 5.

unironically preferred this translation, felt quite a bit more literary than the usual crunchyroll stuff. understand people's desire for consistency though

To be honest, these subs were actually better in terms of translation arrangement. Sometimes the official feels a little clunky, where I found this to be quite smooth in their speech.

Yeah these subs seemed closer to what i remembered in the manga

These subs have their own issues. There was a mistaken, and I don't agree with how they did it with Magath/Willy conversation about nation and spies. Man, will I ever see subs which I can praise?😅

Personally I find the official subs more accurate and closer to the manga despite their choice of words, after comparing the two several times. They often even copy the exact same sentence from the manga which serves the accuracy. DDU tend to miss the meaning sometimes since they translate the whole thing from scratch, "We'll give the jaws to Marcel" for example in ep3 when he was already using his jaw titan in front of them.

Honestly would suggest Im just watches one set of subs for the reactions, and then when he rewatches the episodes on his own he switches to the other, just so he never loses any context or anything that might have been unclear in either. They both have their ups and downs.

I think the DDY subs were for the most part okay (but who am I to say - I'm just an out-of-practice Japanese learner haha) and some of the wording was a little more true to the Japanese way of speaking. However I much preferred Crunchyroll using the word "Easterner" instead of "Orient" ("Oriental" is a slur as Im probably knows).

Honestly, I still prefer the Crunchyroll version. This version's sub is too literal which make the dialogues seem mediocre, hence doesn't fit with the usual depth and thought-provoking theme of the series.

Nah, this version is far from literal. It's full of what translator thought was being said, as opposed to what was actually being said. And translator made quite a few mistakes too.

As for the word "Oriental" I think the meaning is more exotic in nature and not seen as a slur. Can't been 100 % certain tho, also depends on the context.

I'm comparing it with the version we get on Crunchyroll, not judge it as a standalone. In this version, there were some scenes such as the conversations between Willy and the Magath that in MY opinion, weren't as verbally profound and impactful as the Crunchyroll one. Either way, I totally respect people's different viewpoints.

Hey Im, there is a scumbag in both full opacity and early access comment section who seems to enjoy spoiling/hinting at you. I know this gets said a lot but unfortunately, it's better if you just don't read Patreon comments at all, or find some kind of way of comments that allows moderation.

Hey guys. "Oriental" is okay for objects like rugs, lamps, buildings - not people. It is pretty much universally considered racist in North America and it does not depend on context. *Maybe* it's different in other cultures, but you don't want to say this to an Asian American/Canadian. I am Asian American. I think it's a slur. Therefore I'd avoid the term, knowing that it hurts at least *some* percentage of the population. If someone called me Oriental instead of Asian American, I'd be offended. Maybe some people aren't offended, but the writer of that article doesn't speak for me. There is a LONG history of this word being used to dehumanize Asians. I didn't know it was considered as a slur in North America and I have my doubts because this is *clearly* not the case in other cultures especially in *Asia* . When I see your article I can understand why this word can be disturbing but it only concern USA and his history but It has nothing to do a show like shingeki no kyojin.
