Your jacket makes it look like you're a military guy reviewing the warriors' files lol

Something about the coloring during the Annie/Reiner argument scene is so weird lmao. Reminds me of youtube animations like Dark Souls Animated or even oneyNG

it looks like very saturated pastel cyan instagram filter

Great analysis as always, linking back to previous episodes. This was around 3 chapters worth of content so they made a few omissions here and there. About Zeke and Pieck, they were left behind initially to protect Marley against other enemies. It also wasn’t made clear in the anime that the Smiling Titan exhibited abnormal behavior by ignoring Bertholdt - in the manga he spoke of his surprise when she simply walked past him. Good on ya for catching this tidbit!

I've seen a reactor call Reiner a little bitch within these first few episodes of season 4, and that just rubbed me in the worst way...

Chelle

This might be my favorite discussion of the show that you've done so far. You picked up on literally every detail. I'm not surprised or anything, just really pleased. I honestly feel like most people haven't given this episode the credit that it deserves but you've actually given it that credit. Thank you for taking the time to go so in depth about your thoughts once again. Very much looking forward to more amazing future discussions as well :)

Chelle

Way too many reactors have already misunderstood the story and characters so much and it's pretty disappointing to see :/ FILMBuFF is a godsend in that regard

Please delete this. He said he was planning on checking out some manga panels from this episode once the season is over, but hasn’t done so yet

Whoa, you analyzed Eren's motivation and decisiveness so thoroughly with just a few frames. You do not miss. This really is the perfect show for you to watch. Just so you know, I look forward to this every week and I cannot wait for next week!

Anonymous

So glad that you noticed Magath watching the warriors reunite with their families, one of my favorite little moments.

lumine

hey, thanks again for the episode ! Not sure where you are in the recording process but I just wanted to warn you in case you haven't been already : there's a post credit scene (that isn't a spoiler but a part of the actual ep) in 4X04

Daniel Jorgenson

one thought i had about marley keeping Zeke from the first paradis mission. Maybe they didn't want him running into Grisha?

KnightOfCarim

You know what's crazy? when you realize that everything in Reiner's life crushed down on him and when you look back at past seasons, he always lost to Eren in every showdown, which now we know is a reflection from the fact that he's not a warrior by merit, he was not supposed to be there but the circumstances and his past failures bought him there. So when you see him trying to commit suicide you can feel and understand the frustation he must be feeling and the sense of worthless and guilt. I'm really rooting for him now and I hope he can redeem himself and make the right decisions I think he deserves to be happy now, or at least rest in peace.

I never thought about Bertolts sleeping positions resulting from his nightmares. Incredible analyses like that are why I watch your videos

lm Quotes past episodes like it's the Bible.

TbcAlex

Pretty sure he always watches to the end of the ED so he never misses post credit scenes

Fun fact for Berthold's sleeping position: The position we saw this episode is called "the hanged man". - Isayama is such a genius :D

R

a lot of ppl are arguing in one of filmbuff's previous posts and I just wanna say everyone take a chill pill holy shit

Anonymous

About what you said about berthold odd sleeping position he is in fact sleeping like the taro card called the Hanged Man ........ chilling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hanged_Man_(Tarot_card)

Aras Paty

Really great discussion has always and the way you catch on Eren motivations with only a scene is incredible.

kkxszz

The writer won't make anyone happy, my only hope for him is to rest in peace and relief from hell.

Rinne

They cant possibly know that Grisha was still alive and what happened on the day they send those Restorationists to Paradis. Perhaps its for protection? Their nation seems to have many enemies so it makes sense some of the titans will stay.

The thing you said around 12:00. You are so right there. I believe its one of the strongest of Isayama's story telling traits. Recontextualization. Its always been a big part of a story. That is exactly why its so enjoyable to rewatch a series, thats why reactions are so popular for this series. We love rewatching it. Simpliest example besides of course Eren philosophical speech here is Ymir words in season 2. Like everything she says kinda made sence there. But after we learn her backstory you could go and rewatch whole season, carrying this context of her backstory adds more meaning to her dialogues. You can't watch season 2 episodes 4-5 the same way after you've watched episode 6. You can't even watch it same way after you've seen this 4x3 episode. You can't watch Berthold becoming determined in s3 p2 and his death the same way after 4x3 episode. And there is a lot more of these, and yet to come ones.

Zeke stayed behind because they still needed some shifters to protect the homeland, and with zekes titan creation abilities he was important to keep Marley protected. And pieck, well she didn't really have much purpose in going. Its not like they needed her endurance within the walls

Muhammad Affan

Bertolt placing his hand on wall maria in first episode is also well thought out... he placed reiner and annie there and then reiner jumped and transformed and took annie to bert and crashed the inner wall..... Genius Isayama

Anonymous

Isayama loves Reiner so much that he even has the manga panel of Reiner's suicide attempt hung in his work office. Isayama is the truly devil xD https://imgur.com/vktQpGs

Amazing discussion as always ! Your understanding of Reiner's character leaves me speechless

Just subscribed to the Patreon half an hour ago. Already worth it. Amazing discussion on Door of Hope there. Even though I’m only 20 minutes in and it’s already incredibly

Amazing reaction as always. Waiting for next week. -One of the things I started to pay attention to more than before is calling people by first name or last name. In these 3 episodes, everyone is calling the holder of the Cart Titan by first name Pieck. I haven't seen anyone calling her by her family name. She seems to be very friendly with everyone. Another point is Reiner calling Porco by his family name in the present time even though they have trained together for years most likely. -This episode showed the time at which Marcel was eaten better than S2, in S2 I thought it was sunset, but actually, it was sunrise. Also, you could tell that Reiner was running for about 30 mins (It's difficult to tell). He wasn't able to see where marcel was eaten. -Interesting thing about Bertolt is that he was a kind genius, he was able to control the Colossal Titan from the beginning. -The last thing is something that I have noticed just recently (yesterday). They made sure there is a tree next to you Eren. They made sure the shadow of the tree is behind you Eren. There's no way this is just a coincidence. When I noticed it, I couldn't unsee it.

Reminder for the new Patrons, he will eventually check out what was "skipped" (skipped in quotations just in case 1-2 things come up later) from this episode when he reaches the end of the season, so please try not to talk about it.

What makes me not empathize with Reiner, is that he made the choice at the wall to be a soldier vs warrior. The child soldier period could be forgiven because they were kids and knew nothing of these 'devils'. When he chose to go with remaining a warrior is when he lost support. He was old enough to have learned the truth and could have turned himself in for his sins and would have possibly been a help for Paradis to help liberate the Marleyan-Eldians.

Anonymous

And what would happen if he sides with the eldians on paradis? His family at home would get killed off. But not only that, he would have to fight against the people he's trying to protect. The eldians in Marley don't want to get liberated by the paradisians, they want to pay for sins of the past by helping Marley and liberate themselves in that way. And who says that the survey corps keeps them alive after they reveal their true identity? It wouldn't make any sense for them to side with paradis.

Sarah S

After finding his life meaningless and deciding to become Marcel, Reiner also unknowingly found a well of strength and capability he didn’t know he had. He took responsibility and became a leader and dependable person... unfortunately this transformation is born from his tragic circumstances, but he really is a strong person.

"It's unmissable" My roommate missed it... no idea how, but he didn't know it was Erin xD

I will show him all "cut" content of this episode after the season is over, stop talking about it.

Ookisa

Sorry about that. Thanks for the reply and you can delete my comment.

I can't delete comments on Patreon, you gotta delete it yourself unfortunately.

same bro lmao, I wanted to roast him so bad but most reactors didn't pick on it ! In the manga it was even harder to recognize him
