Still seems to be processing 720p/1080p

Oh boy 1h 20m I'm looking forward to this one

vera

Amazing premiere, looking forward to the rest of the ride

Candy Z

Props to your mod, big time

Chelle

I really like how the character models are more detailed this season. The CGI was a bit iffy at spots, but for the most part it was pretty good (and according to the background director each new episode will increase in quality). Amazing discussion as always, I love that they’ve been close to/over an hour long for the more recent episodes. And btw yes, Pieck is pronounced like “Peek.”

vera

It's pronounced ''Peek''/ ''peak of the mountain''

Anonymous

It is a 3 years time skip from the ocean ep. 4 years from basement!

Anonymous

Shingeki Day! LET'S FUCKING GO! Really cool to see your early thoughts on Magath. Really interesting guy.

Cloud osu!

Pieck is actually the german pronounciation! As many said it's pronounced like "peak"

vera

Yeah Sawano still works on the series he's co-composing with Yamamoto.

Anonymous

Fun fact, Yamamoto is actually Sawanos protégé! And boy is Sawano doing a fantastic job at guiding him cause the man is coming in hot with that track when the airdrop started!

One plus that I will say about the studio change which explains the difference in Zeke’s look/age appearance is that MAPPA absolutely *nailed* the character designs, they’re a lot more accurate to the manga. I actually didn’t love how WIT portrayed Zeke, I think MAPPA does a better job for portraying both him and Reiner.

Anonymous

Mappa has better character artwork but the 3D titans were hit or miss like you already said. Either way i hope they saved budget for the bigger fights later this season, cant wait for your reactions ep 3/4

Anonymous

Also one thing is that Zeke had longer hair and beard on S3 since he couldn't/wouldn't shave while on that mission on Paradis. It is like that on the manga too

Muhd Zulhilmi

As expected of Im ! You managed to pick out and figure out what’s going on despite the timeskip. I do share your view that I will always reserve my judgment till I know the full story so I’m looking forward to hear your thoughts on this arc.

Muhammad Affan

Best Reaction.... The fact that Isayama does such a fine job in making these characters is commendable. It certainly puts him in highlight.

Anonymous

Nice to know I'm not the only Jean lover around here lol. Enjoyed the discussion as always.

lumine

for the opening/ending lyrics, I might be wrong but usually the first episode doesn't feature them as translators prefer to focus on the episode to get it out, and go back to the song translation in between the first & second episode, so the next episode should feature them :) edit : ep3!

Hydro

Because it seemed like non patreon members somehow got the youtube links as well

Anonymous

I'm really looking forward to you reaction to the opening And ending with lyrics it makes them a lot better in my opinion

Anonymous

I'm probably of the few who really dislike this new adaption direction ..

Daniel Jorgenson

Wait is that actually Jean in Marley? I'm caught up and never realised it Also i believe Falco reliving memories of ODM gear was never in the manga, and the author requested it to be put in this episode. So either he's just throwing something in for fun, or the story is being retconned as we go

Hydro

I just rewatched the ending a couple of times and one thing I noticed was that in opening 2 of season 1, around 30 seconds in, we see something similar to Falco grabbing that 'light'. We see unknown hands grab 'it' and then it cuts to Ymir closing her hand (in the same way Falco closed his hand in the ending, like grabbing 'it'). I'm not sure if it holds any significance but I thought I'd share it since someone might be able to make something of it. It could also mean nothing but oh well. Great reaction and discussion, I'm looking forward to the next one!

Anonymous

I can tell you but maybe just wait and see if FB is right ?

Squidlord

He should also keep in mind that those lyrics are very incorrect.

Mappa has been doing the source justice so far, this season could go down as one of the all time greats.

1:07:00 a gang member? as in gabi gang? Gabi gang? GABI GANG GABI GANG!!!!!!!

Anonymous

Unbelievably excited to see your reactions and reviews to the new season! I watched your S3 reviews alongside my rewatch before S4 started, your insight certainly helped me understand the story and its nuances better

Sebastiano Barreca

Some people watching S4x1 (5 weeks ago) were like: "Wait what's Marley?" or "Wait is this set in the past?" (after seeing Reiner with a beard). Now, I'm not here to look down on other reactors because that isn't nice and everyone picks up things differently, buuut you could really tell who was there for the story and was genuinely invested in what info the ep was providing to the audience, and who was there for the views only. As expected, you immediatly understood what was going on and even "backgrounds" things like the different armbands colors etc. Again, everyone picks up things in a different manner and time, but not knowing what is Marley or not getting that the ep is set in the future and not in the past, is disappointing

1. I'm 99% sure Zofia is pronounced like the polish name Zofia (not like it matters) 2. The season 2 ED and season 4 OP are performed by the same band, Shinsei Kamattechan. Isayama is apparently a big fan of theirs

Aras Paty

It's really despicable how there treated over something that happened a long long time and they didn't have anything to do with it besides being of the same race. It's a sad reality and things only get worse in this cycle of hatred and mistrust. Really loved the ending and the OP!

Anonymous

I cant believe that I paid someone to watch them watching a show that I have already watched! It was worth it tho lol.

Anonymous

It should be mentioned that even though this is labeled as the "Final Season", these 16 episodes won't cover till the end of the manga. These 16 episodes will most likely cover until chapter 122 of the manga, and there'll probably be a part 2, or a movie(s), or just something to continue till the end of the manga, because the story *will* be adapted till the end, just not in these 16 episodes. Just wanted to clarify that!

kkxszz

Wow, how can you recognize he is Jean, without seeing posters and the trailor. The 4-year-past and the change of studio make everybody looks large different.

Upup

I honestly disagree. I mean I’ve read the manga so I already knew who that was when I saw him, but one can assume that featuring a character like that obviously means it’s somebody important, and Jean was the only character who had that long sharp face structure. Same hair color too.

Anonymous

An important thing to note is that although there is a new animation studio, many of the staff that worked on the previous season carried over to the final season. Like the script writer, sound director (the guy that decides which music to put over what scene) and even the previous composer. Although now its a joint effort between him and a new composer who he has experience collaborating with in the past.

Anonymous

I wouldn't say that "many" of the staff carried over. All of the animation staff is different, and the only staff that carried over are the ones that you mentioned.

AOT is known to have a lot of references and parallels with Norse mythology, so maybe it’s more of a world tree than a tree of life in the ending. Also if the bird is a Raven like you mention in the video they are very prominent in Norse mythology as well.

Anonymous

Surprised there wasn't criticism to the heavy handed exposition this episode, considering your usual dislike of it.

Theo Traumato

why do you dislike this? As an adaption (meaning considering the original material) it is being closer to the artwork of the manga btw

Anonymous

I had the same feeling when Gabi went "Let me explain this to you! We're four years ahead now!" I thought it was pretty heavy-handed and tell-not-show, but tbh, AFAIK a lot of manga readers were very confused as well, so perhaps Isayama felt it was necessary to included.
