I don't know how many progress pictures I'll post per page (or at what stage you prefer to see them), but here's a look at the line work for page 5. In it, I'm trying to refine the level of detail at various scales, and continue working towards an acceptable level of simplification for the visuals.

I've left out some details here, such as the bricks on the castle walls, and instead just left some perspective guides for the bricks (such as in the last panel), so I can paint them in with color. The bricks will be another test. I do not wish to draw every brick, as so many details would be unnecessary. But how to gracefully show the texture with as few bricks as possible... that will be the trick.

Oh, and here's a fun fact. I'm actually working at a lower resolution than my previous comics. I figured this would challenge me to not get so caught up in the details. Let's hope it helps!

Yup yup. I always have this concept in my head of emotional highs and lows. Letting the character experience something good, before experiencing something bad, and vice versa. An emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

I'll always laud your appealing linework, man. The great use of thick, heavy outlines are my absolute favorite. Especially the closet panel where she's definitely the focus in lieu of the clothes. Then in the walk-way panel right under that, you transition the focus to the environment, then zoom it back on her as she nears the doorway (making her lines just as weighty as the environment) and refocusing as she comes down the stairs. Chef's kiss.

Heavier lines bring focus. Artists often talk about using line weight to bring objects to the foreground, but I discovered you can use them to bring attention to things too. In any case, I love giving my characters a thicker silhouette, as I feel like this both helps them pop out from the background, as well as putting them in focus. Glad to see the trick is noticed.
