So here's an interesting experiment I've been performing on myself. I'm trying to see if I can loosen up a bit and allow my style to become more expressive. A part of this involves weening myself off reference material as references can stifle a pose and suck the life out of it. On the left was my initial lay-in for Mi-hee. On the right is a second attempt, trying to focus more on what I want, rather than what I see. References can be great for practice or when you need to solve a problem, but I've been feeling the urge to use those crutches less and less. As long as there is some solidity to the figure, the feeling and expression always wins out in my mind.
