Just now getting over Covid, which I somehow avoided the past few years until New Years Eve of all days. My brain is mush but I'm still drawing!

A highly interpretive sketch of Beatrix, Vessy's swashbuckling badger queen. This year I'm making an effort to record more of my physical-media drawing process when possible. Nothing super in depth here, but hopefully this dispels any illusions about me having "clean" sketches right out the gate!

In previous years I did do a lot more contour-based drawing, but over time it atrophied my sense of understanding for the characters' inner structure/form. These days I sketch the actual skeleton first, then muscle/soft forms, then clothing, with numerous smearing layers along the way. I think of it more like I'm carving the character out from the white of the paper rather than just drawing a line.

Hope that helps some of you. In future posts I'll aim to have more in depth steps recorded to help this process be a little clearer.
