It was terrible when the queen and Sophia left the mansion. I couldn’t stop myself from crying. I couldn’t help myself from begging for her attention. I was still a child, and even though our time together was short, she became dear to my heart.

I love Sara and grandfather, but the queen helped remind me what it was like to have a mother again. Deep down, I wished that she would never leave.

It was a few days later that he revealed the news the queen was talking about.

“Illya, I know is still a bit away, but I decided to celebrate it in the capital again like we did during your first birthday. How does that sound?” he asked, holding me up in his arms.

“The capital?”

Wait, were we not in the capital? I was confused. I could have sworn that we had always been in the capital.

“That’s right, the capital. You must not remember, but after your first birthday, we relocated to our territory. The capital is no place to raise a baby, but seeing that you are growing into a big strong girl. I think we should move back.”

Move back to the capital? Could we even do that? There were way too many humans there. I had finally come to terms with the queen knowing my secret, but could I trust anyone else with this secret?

Besides, what was so great about the capital anyways? Why did we have to go there? I liked our life here. Why did it have to change?

“I don’t wanna.”

While I wanted to see the queen and Sophia again, I didn’t want to leave my home.

“I know that it might be scary to move, especially since Sola and Tully won’t be coming with us, but this is for your own good,” he said, trying to calm me down, but he only made things worse.

“No! I won’t leave Sola and Tully!”

Was he insane? There was no way that I would ever abandon them, just to go to some capital. They were my family.

In my hysteria, I jumped out of my grandfather's arms onto the couch.

“I won’t go! I won’t!”

“...Illya… the potion didn’t work the way that it should have. Their skin has already begun to turn green again,” he said to me in a solemn tone. I could see that he felt bad about this, but I didn’t care. It wasn’t fair.

“No! You Lie. You lie. You lie!” I yelled at him, refusing to listen.

“Illya, please you have to listen, they-“

“No! No, no, no!”

I wouldn’t let him say it, because I knew what he had planned. He was planning to send them away. Only a few people in the mansion knew the truth. There was no way that the others would accept them for who they are.

“Illya, they’ll stay here until the time is right. No one will take them away from you.”

He tried to pick me up again, but I smacked his hand out of the way.  I refused to believe him.

“You lie! I hate you!” I yelled, running out of his office and making my way to the rose garden.

When I finally got there, I huddled up in a ball and started to cry. Just as things were starting to look good for me, this had to happen. I knew that the day would come when I would have to part with Sola and Tully, but I didn’t think that it would happen so soon.

To be honest I should have been prepared for this. The potion would have run out a while ago if it wasn’t for grandfather using smaller doses on them. I just didn’t want to say goodbye to them.

“Hmm? What’s this? Who dares to make my little sister cry?”

All of a sudden, the girl I met a few weeks ago dropped down from the tree right in front of me.

“B-big sister?” The girl never did give me her name before, making her refer to her as big sister. I still found it embarrassing, but right now, I could care less.

“What the heck is this? I’ve been gone for like two weeks, and you’re already crying? Someone must have missed me,” she said, wiping the tears from my eyes.

“N-no… I didn’t, nghhh~.”

“Hehehe~. Still as cute as ever. So tell big sister what the problem is.” The girl sat down next to me, and I couldn’t help but try to touch her tail.

“Hey, no touching!”

“…S-sorry…” I didn’t mean to upset her. In fact, I was glad to see her again. She helped me and gave me a gift that… wait, that was it!

“H-help me!”

“Hmm? What are you all riled up about?” she asked me, looking confused.

“Please help Sola and Tully! Make them stay with me!”

I couldn’t help but cling to her. She helped me before because she took an interest in me. That meant that there was a chance that she might help me again.

“Oh, you mean the other two goblins roaming around this mansion? Sorry, but I can’t do that.”

“What!? Why not!? You did it before. You helped me. Please help them!”

“It’s not… it’s not something that can be done on more than one individual.”

For some reason, her face started to turn red as she looked away from me, but I didn’t understand why. She helped me easily before. Was it really that hard for her to do?

“So you can’t make them look like me?”

“…Wait, that’s what you wanted me to do?” the girl asked, looking surprised for some reason. “If it’s that, I can do that easily.”

“But you just-”

“I thought you were talking about something else.”

Something else? What did she mean by that? All she did to help me last time was make me look like a half-elf without the potion.

“You don’t need to worry about it. I can already tell that it’s working. Slowly but surely, it’s working.”

“Hmm?”

Why was she talking so cryptic? …No, that’s not what matters. What mattered was helping Sola and Tully. I would not let them be taken away from me.

“It’s nothing, now, come on, bring me to your friends, and I’ll help them out,” she said, avoiding the conversation while rising to her feet.

I took her hand and led her into the mansion. I had to be very careful to avoid any of the maids as well as my grandfather, but it wasn’t long before we reached their room.

I hadn’t seen them since last night, but what my grandfather told me was the truth. The potion didn’t last long at all, and they were currently unconscious.

“Are you serious? Why were they using the potion that I told you not to use? Does the owner of this mansion get off by torturing monsters?”

“N-no… grandpa was trying to help…”

How could I tell her that I was the one that made them drink it? She would be furious with me.

“Sigh, there’s no need to hide it. I can smell it on you as well,” she said, placing her hand on my head, removing the effects of the potions once more. Though this time, I didn’t feel that warm sensation like before.

“I told you that using this potion was dangerous. Why didn’t you listen?”

“I… I didn’t want to lose them. They’re my family.”

Using the potion was my desperate attempt to keep them with me. I didn’t want to lose the ones I loved.

“It’s fine, big sister isn’t mad at you, but next time you need help, all you need to do is ask. Let’s fix these two up.

Just as she did for me, the girl placed her hands on their heads, removing the effects of the option from her body while making them look like half-elves once more.

“Thank you, big sister!” I yelled, embracing her, giving her the reward she deserved.

“Hehe~! Of course! This was nothing~! I could-”

The girl stopped mid-sentence as her stomach started growling. I could see her face turn red as she slowly turned her face away from me.

“Is big sister hungry? Come on, wet’s get food!”

Seeing That Sola and Tully were now in good shape, it would be rude if I didn’t help her. Not to mention I could show off my cooking skills.

Without waiting for her to respond, I took her hand and dragged her out of the room. I could tell that she was hesitating, but I couldn’t let her go hungry.

“Huh? For such a big mansion, there is a lack of security here,” she said as we entered the spare kitchen.

“Hehehe~! This place is only used when we have a lot of guests over. And since grandpa doesn’t host parties, this place is all mine. Sit, sit.”

I lead her to a chair, sitting her down before making my way to the counter where the bread I left a few days ago still was. Now all I had to do was cut it.

“W-what?”

Before I could grab the knife, the girl took it away from me.

“No, I may be hungry, but I’m not the type of girl to allow a child to hold a knife. Sit, and I’ll make us something.”

What? That wasn’t fair. I wanted to show off my cooking skill. I know I wasn’t that good, but this wasn’t fair.

“What? Don’t look at me like that, and go sit down,” she said, waving me off.

This sucked. I just wanted to return the favor for helping me. Now I had no other choice but to wait while she made us a snack.

“Here, try this.” The girl soon laid a sandwich in front of me. Not wanting to be disrespectful, I decided to eat it, and it was delicious.

“See,  it’s good, right?

“Y-yes, “ I said, swallowing my food. “Thank you… um…”

I had no idea what her name was. She had helped me so much, yet I didn’t even know her name.

“It’s Belial, but you can call me Bel or big sister like usual,” she said, finally giving me her name.

“B-big sister Bel, why… why are you here?

Should I be asking this? I wanted to know more about Bel, but did I have the right to know?

“To visit you, of course,” she said, smiling back to me, though her words felt forced.

“Heheh~! You like me~,” I said, teasing her.

I had no right to dive deeper than this. I should just be grateful that I have a friend that would do this for me. …Hmm, friend, I did like that.

“Of course I do. Who could hate an adorable goblin like you? To think that I would meet you over ion the human territory, living as a Duke’s great-granddaughter. Why is it that three goblins are posing as half-elves in the first place?”

“…”

“What don’t want to answer me?”

“It’s… I can’t…”

I couldn’t tell her, I didn’t want her to pity me more than she already was.”

“Hmm~. Well, if you don’t want to talk about it, then I won’t force you. I have things that I don’t like talking about, either. When you’re ready, I will listen.”
