“Careful now, Illya, don’t let go,” the queen, leading us out of the mansion, with Sola and Tully following after us.

The fresh air felt amazing against my skin and flowed through my hair. It was nice to feel like this again.

“Mother, where are we going?” Sophia asked, curious about where we were going.

“To pick some flowers, sweetie. Don’t you want to make a nice flower crown for your new friend?”

“Yes! Of course, I do!” Sophia yelled excitedly, leaving me a bit confused.

Why did she want to make a flower crown for me? And were we really friends? Was a goblin allowed to be friends with a human?

“And what about you, Ilya? Do you want to make a flower crown for Sophia?”

“I… I don’t know how.”

In my first life, I never even tried to make a flower crown before. And no one ever showed me how to do it either.  I was certain that I wouldn’t be good at it.

“That’s not a problem. We’ll show you how,” the queen happily said, leading us to the flower garden.

Once there, the queen and Sophia showed me how to make a flower crown, but I was definitely not good at making them. Sophia’s was perfect and neat, while mine was misshapen and falling apart.

“Don’t worry, sweetie. You did great for the first time. We can always try again.”

The queen’s words were encouraging. While I was disappointed with the results, I could always try again. I could even try to be me again. Maybe I could be a goblin again.

“Here, you can use these,” Sola said, handing me some more flowers.

“Oh my, that is a terrible rash. You should go put some ointment on it, don’t you think so?” The queen grabbed Sola’s wrist to keep it hidden from everyone else.

“I’m sorry, what do you…”

Sola was shocked. Half of her right hand was green. And unknown to her, the top of her neck was turning green as well, slowly working its way up to her lower jaw.

“Hmm, I think that the both of you should,” the queen said, making me look over to where Tully was, and it was the same for her as well.

“Y-your highness, I am terribly sorry that you have to see this. I…”

“It’s alright, dear; please just go do what you need to do. We will be fine.”

With the queen's permission, Sola and Tully quickly made their way back to the mansion, making me realize the truth.

I knew that I wasn’t hearing things a few nights ago. The queen truly did know that we were goblins, yet she didn’t show any hatred towards us. In fact, she cared about us. We were goblins, yet she showed no malice. Were there other humans like her out there?

“Don’t worry, sweetie, I promise that they will be fine,” she said, guiding my hands to help me create my next flower crown. With her help, it came out much better than my last one. It was fun, just like playing with Sola and Tully. Maybe I could make them flower headbands when they return.

Unfortunately, Sola and Tully did not come back to the garden, but instead Lena.

“I am sorry young Miss, but both Sola and Tully have developed a rash on their arms and necks and will not be able to see you for the next few days until it clears up.”

“Oh my, that sounds terrible. The rash is not causing them any harm now, is it?” the queen asked, sounding worried for them.

“Worry not, your highness. Sola and Tully will be fine. They are not in any pain, but we do not want to risk the chance of the rash being infectious, so it is best to keep our distance.”

“Hmm, that is quite a shame. To think that they would get sick on our last day here,” the queen said revealing something important.

“Y-your leaving?”

Did she really have to leave? Would I see her and Sophia again? Was I a fool for actually thinking that they would stay with me?

“Sweetie, there is no need for you to be upset. While our business here may be done, that doesn’t mean that we won’t see each other again. Didn’t your grandfather tell you the good news?”

Good news? What was she talking about?

“Fufufu~. There’s no need for you to be confused,” she said, lifting me up into her lap. “We’ll be seeing each other quite often after your fifth birthday.”

“Hmm?”

Was there something special about my fifth birthday?

“Hehehe~. It’s going to be a wonderful party,” Sophia said, wiggling her way next to me.

“I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise, so you must promise that you will be good until then.”

The queen’s soft voice was relaxing, making me believe that the future would be kind to me. I was unable to help myself as I fell asleep in her arms.

When I woke up later that night, I knew that I couldn’t focus on the queen’s departure. Right now, I had to worry about the safety of my family. They were in trouble and needed my help.

Seeing that no one was watching me, I wasted no time sneaking over to my grandfather's office.

“Illya? What are you doing up this late?”

Just as I started to open the door to his office, he realized it was me.

“Nggh~! How did you know!” I was upset. Every time I tried to sneak into his office, he always knew it was me. It wasn’t fair.

“Only you would try to sneak in here,” he said, coming over to pick me pick. “Now what can I do for my adorable baby girl?”

“Potion.” I held out my hand, demanding the potion to change skin colors.

“Illya, what are you talking about?” he asked, trying to cover up the truth, but there was no hiding it from me.

“Potion for Sola and Tully, give.”

“Sweetie, I can’t do that, we need that for you, or else you will be in danger.” I could tell that he was trying to protect me, but after what that girl did, there was no reason for me to even need it.

“No! I won’t take it!”

I refused to take it if it meant that Sola and Tully couldn’t live normal lives.

“…Fine…”

I could see my grandfather struggle as he tried to think up a way to convince me to take it. Though he should know by now, when it comes to Sola and Tully I would do whatever I needed to help them.

“Illya, there is only a bit of the potion left. It might not work out the way you think it will. And soon your skin will start to turn green as well.”

“No, it won’t! I don’t need it!”

“Sigh~. There really is no way for me to stop you,” he said, opening up his desk drawer and bringing out the remaining potion.

I was a bit worried about using this on Sola and Tully after the girl did tell me that it was killing me, but they had more mana than me so they should be fine, right?

Thanks to my skillful negotiation skills with my grandfather, we soon made our way over to Sola and Tully’s room. Because of their circumstances, they were allowed to sleep in the same room and away from the rest of the maids, which made it easier to hide their secret.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

Grandfather knocked on the door a few times before entering. The room was almost completely dark and only a dim candle lit open the room enough to see Sola and Tully in their beds.

“My lord? What are you doing here?” Sola asked from the shadows. “A-and with h-er. She can’t see us like this!”

I could see her try and cover her body with her blanket. On the over side of the room, I could hear Tully do the same.

“Down. Put me down please,” I said to my grandfather, taping his wrist while holding onto the potion.

“Alright, but be careful,” grandfather said, placing me on the ground and allowing me to run over to Sola.

“Sir! Please, she can’t see us like this!”

I understood that Sola feared being seen as a monster by someone she cared about because I always felt that way. Though with her, we were both monsters, and I wanted to see her pretty goblin face again.

“Sola it’s okay. You need this right?”

I held up the potion for her to grab standing at the side of her bed. I watched as her green hand slowly came out from the shadows, gently taking the potion away from me.

“I’m sorry Illya. I… I didn’t want you to see me like this.”

“It’s okay,” I said, doing my best to climb up the side of her bed to sit next to her. “As long as you are healthy, I’m happy.”

“Illya…”

I could see her face clearer now, watching as her green skin faded away, making her look like an elf again.

“Are you feeling better now?”

“Y-yes,” she said slowly looking away from me before handing me back the potion. There was only enough for Tully now.

“Good. You need to be healthy to play with me.”

“Hehe~. Of course, thank you, “she said, finally smiling back at me.

Seeing that she was feeling better now I made my way over to Tully and gave her the potion as well. She was a bit more shy than Sola when receiving it, but she still took it. They were now able to leave their room again.

Though the main problem now was that there was no more of this potion left and I had no clue how to get more. I was just a kid with no access out of the mansion. Finding Lilith was impossible.

I just hope that everything gets better from here.
