The Next Morning (Retrospective) (Patreon)

A couple months ago I wrote a short furry abdl story for an online zine called Nursery Warp.  I was but one contributor among I don't even know how many other talented writers and artists, but I'm particularly proud of my contribution here.

The only requirement for the theme was that it had to be altered reality, wherein characters are still physically adult (or mostly...I've never heard anyone complain when a main character loses their body hair for example) but is scene as and treated like a small child, toddler or infant.

So um...I don't know if y'all know this from reading the vast majority of everything I've ever written, but that's kind of my jam.  My brain translated the prompt to "write like yourself".

The real fun came when I paired up with a phenomenal babyfur artist named Caled.  We kicked around a few ideas, and I ended up dusting off an old idea of mine about a high school reunion gone wrong and combined it with his amazing art style.

And it was fun!

So fun!

There's something so cool about being able to bend the ol' tried and true tool box and use some of the known hallmarks for the animal kingdom as a kind of shorthand or twist on what I usually write about.

I got to have the main character go through the shock of realizing that he no longer had his antlers and that his white spots had come back!  I got to reference cuckoo birds, birds imfamous for placing their big honking baby eggs in the nests of smaller birds and passing off their babies as the other birds'.  Also cuckoo clock and time!  I got to make a corney Bambi reference with a diaper that had water droplets appear when wet!  And I got to play it all straight faced because the weird thing wasn't that there were walking and talking animals.

And Caled drew it perfectly!  Seriously, I feel like I ripped them off just by partnering with them, they're so good!

P.S. I am really sorry if I'm saying Caled's name wrong.  It's what I have in all my contacts with them, and their FA and Twitter use two different nom de plumes.

If I find out I'm crediting them improperly, I'm coming in and editing this immediately.
