Interesting to hear your thoughts on BTS/KPOP and what you hear other people echoing. My family grew up very much consuming general hallyu stuff (as many east-asian/immigrant families do lol) so I knew kpop and to me kpop was just songs. There were good songs, bad songs.. like it was just a genre. I wasn't attached to anyone, any group. Message didn't really matter to me and I generally had few consecutive songs I liked from a single group even if I liked the group. BTS was my first group that it felt like I could feel the message they were getting across to me. Like, it felt like listening to music from legit people who were my age and growing with me and experiencing similar things. Something about BTS music genuinely feels like their art. Now I think it's more common -- there are quite a few self-producing and talented groups. But I don't think it hits me the same. There are a lot of kpop songs that talk about growing up and similar themes, but often very... abstractly. It just feels like BTS music sounded to me, like, very much drawn from personal experience. The connection where it feels like these people are experiencing the world with me and somehow we fundamentally see similar things from the world despite very different experiences. So like, I'm not really against kpop. I regularly check new comebacks, I have groups where I anticipate their new music more, I pay attention to new releases. But like, for the most part it feels like just another genre (a highly preferred genre) to me where I watch out for new music. BTS is "it" for me in that, waiting for a release feels like they're the group where I'm like, yah these people, I want to know where they're at in life (through music) and what they're experiencing these days.

It's weird bc I've been peripherally aware of kpop long before BTS and yet the people behind the music never really mattered to me. Like who the group was behind the hit song was not important. I only really every paid attention to individual members who were part of variety shows or in dramas lmao -- people I recognized from other things not kpop.

The singularity song gave me goosebumps and with that screen with the rainy rooftop and candles 🤭 God give me grace! The whole album is amazing! That song just floors me! Each of their songs make me feel something different! Which is amazing!
