Basically, the inate domains the curses are using don't provide them with a power up, it just negates cursed techniques that they come in contact with (so it can be used defensively to stop techniques from being used on them and offensively to pierce through defensive techniques.) The downside is that when using this, you can't use your special techniques either. It basically forces everyone onto an even playing field with just hand to hand combat.
