Canutes idea is interesting in the savior scheme of things, instead of gathering likeminded good-natured people like you'd expect of someone trying to build a Utopia he reigns in all the raiding, pillaging scumbags of the world who'd never be taken in by anyone else cuz he believes precisely those who go against the generalized idea of people who'd deserve to go to heaven are the ones that can build a heaven on earth. Unfortunately in the attempt i think he's falling a bit to the same said corruption that the ones hes reigning over have, its like that one quote: "As you stare into the abyss, so does the abyss stare back" Really you gotta wonder if he actually has a choice, i mean he's clearly still a somewhat decent person, he has respect for people living or dead, he doesn't kill unless prompted ect, but if he wasn't the cold hearted "get shit done no matter who you step over" type of leader would the Vikings still follow him? Would Thorkell? It may be that he's not exactly being corrupted, but hes just become who has to so that this plan of unifying the scum of the world can even begin to work. You can't rule over scum without being kinda scummy yourself. As for Thorfinn, his new outlook is as sustainable as he is, any ideology is only as strong as the person holding it, in Thorfinns case, i think he has the strength thing covered xD Its a testament to how damn good the narrative in this show is that it gets your gears spinning like this, can't wait for the final few episodes!
