I think Laxus had the right to be mad tbh, Makarov brags about how close fairy tail is and that he’ll never abandon anyone but he threw his own son out and from what it seems he didn’t try that hard to change him like he would with others in the guild

Laxus' anger is pretty justified all things considered imo, for one he brought Juvia and Gajeel into the guild, both of whom brought harm to the guild jus t like Ivan did, hell Gajeel crucified three of them and wrecked their entire building and Juvia kidnapped Lucy yet they were brought like everything was sunshine and roses. Whats not justified is him taking an entire city full of innocent people hostage and threatening them with death, fine beat the shit out of the guild if you want, they can fight, don't bring random strangers who can't defend themselves into this. Although, and this is just what i'm thinking from the lil exchange between Natsu and him at the end there, i don't think Laxus ever actually wanted to destroy the city, i think he was riding on Makarov handing over the guild master seat before it came to that, its why he panics a bit when he realizes how close the timer is ticking and has now backed himself and his pride into a corner, unknowing to him Makarov is unconscious

The means do not justify the ends. He was banking on Makarov surrendering, but as you said, he is not aware that Makarov had a stroke.
