A few details, I don't know if you missed it or just didn't comment on it but after Zack gives Rachel her nickname (Ray) you can see she makes the smallest of smiles, it would seem little miss horror show likes it.

It's quite evident from Rachel's obsessive and surprisingly emotive reaction that she cares a great deal about God and his principles. First off, she wants to die but the idea of suicide is something she doesn't approve of specifically siting it being something God apparently doesn't approve of. Then we have the fact she took Zack swearing to God very seriously, a phrase that is quite common and not generally taken this seriously or literal. Rachel however takes it to heart and is the driving force for Rachel choosing Zack over Eddie. Some very interesting early characterization.
