A lot of the time I'm not a big fan of Fairy Tail's simple method of storytelling, but the foreshadowing, buildup, and execution of Jellal's plan was brilliant.

I think FT's main issue is that there is no overarching plot which is an issue DBZ and some other shounen suffers. One Piece: Luffy wants to be King of The Pirates Naruto: Naruto wants to become Hokage Black Clover: Asta wants to be The Wizard King My Hero Academia: Izuku wants to be a hero Full Metal Alchemist: Edward & Alphonse wanted to get their bodies back DBZ and YuYuHakusho both have loosely connected arcs that tie into each other sort of, though after The Saiyan/Namek tidbits for DBZ and honestly none of Hakusho's arcs meld together minus when Torguro is introduced really connect. FT has a similar approach where some arcs are foreshadowed upon, none more so than the current arc thus far, but there is no overarching plot. I suppose Bleach is also similar since its main protag had no real goal in mind, he just wanted to protect the people he cared about from the asshats that threatened them. We start with Natsu trying to find his father and Lucy wanting to join Fairy Tail and from there it's been adventure pandemonium. FT is a VERY flawed series, but it has charm and I do believe its creator cared about the world he created.

In my opinion there is way more love/character development in all the side characters in Fairy Tail then like Bleach or Naruto even though I think the writing in Naruto is better then Fairy Tail. you could probably argue there isn't any side characters or main characters in Fairy Tail. That the Main Character is The Whole Guild/Family Of Fairy Tail.

I think Naruto gives its supporting cast a fair amount of love and in One Piece's case, it is largely about The Strawhats as a crew. But yeah, Fairy Tail does a lot to keep it's not main characters active during the storyline. Take The Strauss siblings for example, they had their own little development in an arc where Lucy was the main focus. And Phantom Lord was where we saw the guild as a whole (minus Laxus*spits*) work to fight for Lucy and the guild as a whole. I think FT has great character writing, but less than ideal story writing. The arcs we've seen here so far are fantastic, but later arcs become... questionable. I won't go into details until we get to the arcs I am thinking of as I don't want to spoil and I want Curtis to formulate his own opinions without outside influences.

I'm just saying besides Shikamaru. If most of Narutos friends disappeared from the show I wouldn't really notice.
