Alibaba has quite the attractive plan for governance, but I'm thinking there are forces who will be looking to ruin this!

It is somewhat interesting that you started off on the "Are you sure you shouldnt just be the king?" route.

Transitioning a country that has been under a monarchy for hundreds of years to a republic probably wouldn't go smoothly in reality, especially if it has a lot of powerful people invested in centralized power. There are a number of historical examples where some forward thinking rulers tried involving regular citizens in the governing process. Catherine the Great of Russia brought in citizen representatives so they could take part in discussions on how to improve the country but their concerns tended to be things like "my neighbor stole my cow" or "my roof is always leaking" as they had no understanding of large scale economic or governing concepts. Even the people with actual influence spent most of the time just trying to flatter and suck up to her so the event largely ended up being useless. A modern day example of a failure of trying to force a country to rapidly adopt a new system of government would be Afghanistan. The people there don't tend to have a sense of national unity as their society is built around local tribes and families, so a large organized group like the Taliban was able to easily take over within a matter of weeks after US forces pulled out. Most successful government transformations tend to be gradual, over generations rather than years.
