The hypocrite point is an interesting one, because really, it depends on whether you look at the Xenos as people, or as monsters. Even so far as people who don't use the term 'monster' to be derogatory, just as a designation of the species, you could say its hypocritical to be in a career where your entire job is to kill monsters by delving into their home, and instead you pick and choose which to save. Personally i don't find it very hypocritical for the same reasons you outlined, its less that they're totally separate beings, and more that you simply won't kill someone whos not trying to kill you, just as you would humans, or any other peoples. I suppose for people who don't know that intelligent monsters exist, or don't care, the hypocrisy point stands valid, but that a them problem

Agreed. As you mentioned, it’s not fair to paint any group with a broad brush, which is why I don’t find it hypocritical at all.
