Yeah, my second favorite part won’t be coming for a while but you’ll probably know it when you see it. My third favorite was the team up with Rory and Kuribayashi, the soldier who is in disbelief that Itami is special forces, when they fight the bandits.

Indeed don't fuck with Rory, but also maybe fuck with Rory if asked. Also, one of my favorite bits is still everyone losing their shit at how badass Itami actually is because he really wouldn't seem like it if you didn't know better. I'm glad the human life expectancy isn't as low as in their world otherwise some of us may have to pick up the pace on watching anime to get the ones we want in.

The journalist scene is a perfect little microcosm of people today. So you mean to tell me that in this conversation where you just discussed a dragon, talked to a wizard and then an elf all from an entirely different dimension you SOMEHOW assumed that because a person from said other dimension is wearing clothing slightly similar to the one we wear during mourning that she is, in fact, in mourning too? The amount of mental gymnastics you need to try and twist that up in your brain ought to make her an Olympic level athlete, if stupidity was an olympic sport that is. Also concerning why she tried to pin it all on the JSDF, its mainly due to the fact that other countries, and even some politicians in country, want to make the JSDF look incompetent and gain authority over what goes on in the Special Region. Classic politics and just plain ol journalism gathering as many clicks as possible

Apparently the absolute bitch is a caricature of a prominent Liberal Politician in Japan, who's been famously critical of the JSDF. Apparently the author of the light novels dislikes her enough to lampoon her in his story. Also I like how Itami is such an inversion of typical Anime tropes. In most Anime the hero is always top of their class when it comes to stuff like special forces training. Instead Itami came in second last place. They're also typically all virgins who're either just meeting their first love or they're getting over a bad relationship in High School. Itami's actually been married and divorced, it's a nice change of pace.

If I was to guess with the reporter lady, I'd say she is part of some sort of political party that is critical of the JSDF. In other words, she had an agenda which was quite obvious since she kept asking the same question over and over, attempted to restructure it to get some sort of damning comment from the witnesses and is even willing to use, who she thought was a grieving widow to get that comment.
