Yeah, this is something I have seen in anime a couple times. Our male character has an honor code which prohibits them from doing any harm to women. This code of chivalry can get them into trouble as they stubbornly hold onto it even as a very strong woman beats them senseless (Sanji is a big example) Here is where that code gets put into question since it's very easy for someone on an outside perspective to view this, as a major sign of disrespect. After all they are unwilling to take their female opponent seriously based on the fact, they have no intention of even fighting them and it's all based on their gender. While the male character obviously doesn't mean anything offensive by it but in the end, they are unwilling to respect their opponent as an equal based on their gender alone. As Curtis said, this is a difficult situation to think about. The male character does have the right to stick to their code however if it means unintentionally demeaning their female opponent is it really worth keeping to. A very difficult question to answer.

Kenichi's rule is to never HIT a woman, meaning he could still theoretically use grappling techniques on her, although I guess that didn't work out so well for sunglasses a few episodes back, so Kenichi would probably just lose faster if he tried.

Plus 3 of kenichis martial arts arent very focused on grappling, muay thai has clinchwork, kenpo use striking throwing combinations and karate is largely striking. So kenichi doesn't really have many grappling options untill he gets better at jujitsu
