god this is such a classic, I love the old animation style and the mixing of classical styles and sci fi together work so well, big space operas work so well.

I would assume most people kinda root against the Governments of the Alliance and the Empire, just for Yang(who is somewhat against his own government as you know) and Reinhard(who is heavily against his own government as you know now).
