I joke about Archer having become the "Get off my lawn" guy, but he's actually pretty fascinating! And very soured!

Regarding Saber making a master/servant pact with Rin, remember, the reason why masters are often killed is specifically to stop them from joining up with servants who have lost a master. A masterless servant can't do much because of lack of mana (such as Saber at the beginning of the episode) but a master who has lost their servant always has the potential of gaining a new one, as shown here.

There's a lot of hints here regarding Archer's identity, most people figured it out by now, but won't spoil as it will be even cooler when you find out at the reveal heh. Fate Trivia (no spoilers): Archer's Noble Phantasm is a reality marble, it's the same type of magic that Rider used to summon create a battlefield and summon his army in Fate Zero. Kiritsugu also used a reality marble although he only used it within his body which allowed him to speed up and slow down time (such as in his fight with Kirei at the end of Fate Zero). It's a very flexible magic as it literally allows the imagination to be made real temporarily.

I will tell you that you definitely know a lot of Archers lore.

One thing that's crazy about this show curtis, is that you could watch it 15 times and each time you'd pick up something new. I'm a HUGE Fate fan..like..shows/movies/games/waifus all of it. I /still/ learn new stuff each time I watch it, ironically even realized something new watching your reactions! It's like a puzzle that has more pieces come together each time you watch it which is absolutely wild.

Hopefully nobody spoils who Archer exactly is in these comments, because it's not until episode 19 that the "proper" reveal is made, and you'll for sure have no problem knowing who he is. There were tons of hints in this chapter, but with subtitles instead of dub it ca admittedly take a few reads to really piece all the hints together, so I don't think it's strange you haven't gotten the full picture yet. You did though, understand the basics around Archer's past and how Shirou represents his old self's ideals, and that's probably the most important aspect of this particular episode, beyond name dropping Unlimited Blade Works. Next few episodes are just amazing, so I'm really excited to see how you feel as this amazing anime closes out.

I’m far enough ahead so that I know who he is… Certainly a character known to me! 😄
