I knew Rin should have just zapped that douchebag, Shinji! Well, at least his new servant will have a crappy master!

That is why it was mentioned earlier that the optimal way to fight is to kill the master and the servant, so incase someone misses either later then you still wont get a new opponent.

Shinji was blaming Rider for being a crappy servant, but servants are highly dependent on their master providing them lots of mana to bring out their true abilities and Shinji is not even a half-assed mage like Shirou, he's completely worthless magic wise. So the only reason Rider was so weak was because he was her master at the time.

Yup, Shirou is a bit below average, so Saber can't do shit like using Excalibur. Shinji is bad enough that he isnt really called a wizard anymore.

As someone else mentioned, the reason why Rider was so weak in this grail war was flat out due to Shinji being so incompetent and worthless. Had she had someone like, almost anyone else, even Shirou, she would have been faaar more significant. But unfotunately this Rider got stuck with the absolute worst master from a competence PoV. Imagine being summoned only to find out your master is literally a worthless piece of trash like Shinji. Is it not obvious I hate Shinji?

Kirei always has some shit up his sleeve. I’d hate him if I didn’t love him-

Now that I think about it Ryuunosuke (Caster's master in the last war) really lucked out with his servant. Like Shinji he wasn't really a mage, so he would've had a hard time replenishing his servant's mana. However Caster (Gilles de Rais) had a tome that kind of acted as an independent mana source and a absolutely no qualms about killing children for the mana. So he didn't have to rely on Ryuunosuke for mana that much. Unfortunately for Ryuunosuke (and the children that became sacrifices) but fortunately for everyone else in the war, he squandered that opportunity to torture and murder for shits and giggles.
