This one is always hard to watch. With how interesting this show is with it's world and the way they show the kids' journey, it's easy to forget just how dangerous it really is and how fast a situation can change. We're warned throughout the show of the dangers but don't really think about it too much cause of Riko's happy-go-lucky kind of attitude towards the whole adventure (at least that's how I felt).

Watching this episode, I actually thought they could kill Riko off. Because Riko and Reg both kind of share the protagonist role in a way. So the possibility of her dying and Reg becoming the only protagonist seemed plausible. And I was very physically uncomfortable like you were.

Yeah, my first time through I was watching this show on my lunch break at work...almost threw up watching this episode the first time. That was a couple month long hiatus for me before I could work up the nerve to watch it again. It's brutal

I don't remember where I heard this so take it with a grain of salt, but I heard that for episodes 1-9 the series was rated PG-13 (or the Japanese TV equivalent), then for this episode they actually increased the rating to R. If that's true, it's actually a really clever meta-way to catch the viewer off guard. "*smugly* Oh yeah, I'm sure this PG-13 show will have a graphic arm-cutting scene. Wait, what was this episode rated?"
