Nah Crane Hermit was always a prick. The whole King Piccolo thing probably just made him worse. I had seen a similar thing with another series with a dickhead old man were this old woman who knew him since childhood claimed he wasn't always a prick. A bad experience was the reason for his attitude. And then we see in his memories that he was always a little shit who was the reason for the bad experience.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s bullshit that Goku is still able to ride the nimbus despite feeling some certain NEGATIVE emotions…like REVENGE?!!! I know it’s one of the many…many inconsistencies from Toriyama, but I figured I wanted to point is out.😒

The Demon King Piccolo invasion might be the first major conflict in Dragon Ball history or at least the first that involved some of our main cast. A global event that featured a terrible monster terrorizing the earth laying waste to the human population until a lone hero gives his life sealing the monster away. Sounds like a JRPG or some classic fantasy story. Now what I noticed here is that Dragon Ball does have a history problem, or more accurately an issue with the people of the earth forgetting massive tragedies that should be a permanent part of history now. Now we could say that it was because it was so long ago but first off, I don't believe it would be forgotten by a modern society like we saw soldiers with machine guns and stuff fighting them so I would assume that we would have at least put a memorial for those killed during these events. Secondly this will not be the last time where a big Dragon Ball Event will go unmentioned that cost a lot of people their lives, big example being the fact Vegeta and Nappa arrive and cause havoc. This is actually something TFS makes fun of where Vegeta and Piccolo hear that this thing with Cell is the biggest cost of human life or something in their history as if the Saiyan's didn't immediately blow up a city and Piccolo didn't invade the earth with his children. Just something I took notice of.

Also, this is the first use of a formula Dragon Ball Z or the rest of Dragon Ball in the manga will start to use. Basically, Goku and friends will be confronted by a massive physical threat like a monster or a tyrant who will be strong enough to force Goku to train to try and get stronger in order to face. Sometimes this threat will become their friend later but not super often, honestly it only happens like two times if we don't count Super. This is also the first time a part where members of the main cast will die and will need to be revived with the dragon balls. This is why later the Dragon Balls get new rules added to them so we can still have stakes in future arcs.
