The first time we ever met Kaido was during that alliance meeting between Kidd, Hawkins and Apoo. Kaido had jumped off a sky island, in an attempt to kill himself, and landed where his subordinate (Apoo) had already informed him of. After he crawled out of his crater, he asked Kid and Hawkins if they would fight or submit. Hawkins submitted and became a Headliner on Kaido's crew, Kidd and Killer fought and were both taken prisoner.

That bit with Kaido was a flashback to when we first met Kaido proper. Apoo sells out Kid and Hawkins; Hawkins agrees to join Kaido and Kid as well as Killer are captured. Afterwards Killer is fed a bad Smile fruit. It was all mostly accidental as Apoo was as surprised to see Kaido, but as he was already on his payroll, he was sparred any harm. I do believe Kid was given the opportunity to join Kaido as Hawkins was, but Kid refused and we saw the result of that. But yeah, Apoo shat his pants when he saw Kid; he was likely under the assumption Kid was still imprisoned at Udon. XD

Anime stretching out Kid's attack make it seem like Apoo saw Kid and had a plenty of time to dodge, but in actuality (in manga) Kid caught Apoo by total surprise while he was focused on Luffy&Zoro.

punk gibson is not an attack anyone should be able to survive. if just feels so brutal. also betrayal happens every other episode in this arc apparently lmao the ppl that betrayed oden, apoo, kanjuro, queen now, etc its a bit much at times
