Not only are these characters awesome, but the laughs per episode is off the charts! 😂

LETS GOOO!! It’s sad to know we’re soon being caught up to One Piece, but I am looking forward to whenever we vote on watching Gintama as a daily. It one of the only shows I can watch without taking the story too seriously! I love it 😂

Gintama is Amazing. I’m so sad I’m almost done watching it. Gintoki and Kagura are my top two favorites

SL

Ah yes, the introduction of my two favorite characters in the show, Kagura and Katsura

Gorilla-like man from episode 4 is voiced by Hideaki Sorachi, the manga's author, he appears occasionally. Some episodes have segments after the credits, so keep checking for these. Gintama ruined Gaara for me, now I always hear Katsura when he's talking (https://youtu.be/YCgnFctOntA?t=18 is a good example). It's a good thing you've already seen Toradora, it would be probably be difficult to take Taiga seriously for similar reason.

Interesting fact the Ikedaya Hotel is a reference to the Ikedaya Inn. A raid on an Anti-Foreigner meeting that made the real life Shinsengumi famous.

Japanese history infodump: -The time period Gintama is set in is 1860s Japan. During this time, there were several unequal treaties signed with western countries (see: Amanto) that made Japan a lackey for the US and UK. -The Joi we’re a real thing that opposed this state of affairs and fought (both politically and in some cases, violently) to stop this. -Kagura is based on Princess Kaguya, a folk legend moon princess. -Katsura Is based on Katsura Kogoro, a famous Japanese revolutionary from the 1860s that ended up becoming one of the founders of modern Japanese society -The Shinsengumi were a real police force that were created by the Japanese government to arrest revolutionaries like Katsura and support the government’s position.
