Yes! The ultimate twist! It’s called Laugh Tale not Raftel! I think Roger and his crew laughing at the One Piece is a Red Herring. They’re actually very sad about the situation Sometimes psychologically, People tend to laugh as a way to express their sadness and frustration. We know that Roger was sick and running out of time, so he couldn’t wait to all the time to finally use the One Piece, so he’s most likely laughing because they rushed all the way to Laugh Tale only be able to do nothing. So they were Too Early. Rayleigh told Robin that whenever they learn the truth of the world the Straw Hats may reach a different conclusion. So I think Luffy and the Straw Hats will finally see the One Piece, they will actually be crying out of anger instead of laughter.

Roger laughed lad while the whole fandom cried or was touched by this scene. This lad is where one piece started and how it might end. The ost is called memories lad and by god have we made allot with you lad reacting to this amazing anime. The greatest treasure ever is something so funny that made Roger's crew and himself cry to the point of crying. God I honestly can't wait to see what it is. Also this is how amazing Oda is, two characters that have long been dead still have this much of an impact in the story in joy boy and Roger how himself, including others. God he truly is goda Also this episode shows why I truly admire and respect Roger. He's truly in pain lad, he's suffering hell he can barely move on and yet he pushes it all down and has a big happy smile to simply not worry his crew. He reminds me of my own pops so much because he was like him. God this backstory is so awesome, hopefully in the future we get one for joy boy.

This was an amazing episode, Binks Sake and Memories playing. Seeing Roger at the legenday Laugh Tale. No matter how many times I watch or read this part I get goose bumps.

*Sees the smokestacks in the background as Oden leaves* It's begun already :( I see the end of Roger's tale as bittersweet. Yes they reached their goal, but now the journey is over. It's like he wanted to keep on going forever, just like how for some of us wanted certain books, movies, shows, and games to go on. Or how some people have a journey through their careers and eventually they hit that point where it has to end. Sometimes its uncertainty, rather than fulfillment or completion that set in. None the less, Roger had one hell of a run. He fought with Garp against Rocks, was Whitebeard's primary rival, Buggy and Shank's father figure, got to see Zou, Skypeia, Fishman Island, Wano, and thus far is the only captain to succeed in finding The One Piece.

The translation of Raftel and Laugh Tale are correct romanizations of the word ラフテル (the way it was originally written in the japanese volumes). I think that Oda specifically wrote it that way ( without giving the descriptive form) to Obscure the words "laugh tale" before this point, in that way, Raftel is not a misstranslation, it's just Laugh Tale in it's "undescriptive form". Oda basically just bamboozled the entire fandom for 20+ years I think it was during the beginning of wano oda said that there is point in the story where he gotta be very cautious when writing, because it could reveal what the one piece is and I do believe it's this moment. Glad you enjoyed this moment. I been reading One Piece for 18+ years and I was at work when I read this chapter (967) for this first time. To this day I remember how I completely broke down and started crying in front of my coworkers when roger laughed. Something about that moment just break me down everytime I watch or reread it.

Imo 2021 (which this is a part of) One Piece anime has just been straight fire. Best year the anime has had so far by a mile imo. Oden's flashback was how it started (if I recall correctly) and it just keeps going in the right direction.

as someone who has been reading one piece weekly since i was 7 (im 18 in a month) so over a decade i dont think its a stretch to say that "roger laughed" was genuinely one of the biggest moments in my life, this story is fucking phenomenal

We finally reached a monumental moment in the series. Now we know that the One Piece is Joyboy’s treasure! But Who is Joyboy? Also I definitely think Buggy and Shanks will go to Laugh Tale when it’s time for Luffy vs Blackbeard.

One of the movies spoiled the name laugh tale before the chapter in the manga came out. I say spoil but it was still a reveal that no one knew so it was more like informed in a different way. That being said when we finally got to this chapter in the manga it still hit you with glee. As you're reading Odens narration the last bubble before turning the page says, "and in the face of that 'vast treasure', which was very real indeed"...and then turning the page and have an entire page of just Roger's face laughing. With just one narrative bubble from Oden on that page saying, "Roger just laughed". Just so good.
