Nobunaga really is the expert at destroying Cavalry. A contemporary of his Takeda Shingen actually more or less invented the Cavalry Charge in Japan. Prior to that the Japanese had primarily relied on mounted archers (the original role of Samurai) for their cavalry. This was mostly due to the fact that the horses native to Japan were unsuited to cavalry charges involving lances. Takeda imported Western Horses from the Portuguese (Cavalry while going out style was still a part of European warfare at the time) and started breeding them with the island's native stock. Eventually he was defeated by Nobunaga, who decimated Takeda cavalry with firearms and spearmen. A military technology only recently introduced to Japan, ended more or less as quickly as it began.
