Hinamizawa is basically the Japanese equivalent of Innsmouth or Dunwich. Small town that's very insular? Check. Creepy Local Religion? Check. A tendency for the people to go mad while there? Check. Only difference is that Hinamizawa presents itself as this bright cheery place. Whereas with Innsmouth or Dunwich those places don't even bother to pretend to be anything but creepy.

I really wish this would be voted into the daily anime as everything begins to fit together and if you can't remember stuff because it was months ago it might lessen the impact.
