Shanks is talking to the Celestial Dragons! I REALLY hope Shanks isn’t evil!

Shanks might be a Celestial Dragon himself because this is the second time a high authority in the World Government granted a request from a pirate. Both Sengoku and the Five Elders said to Shanks “Only because it’s YOU”. So there is something in particular special about Shanks besides being a Emperor. Either way it’s very sus of Shanks. The pirate Shanks is most likely speaking about is Rocks. Not Luffy or Blackbeard.

This is probably my personal favorite mystery in the show atm. Yeah there's plenty of going on with the void century, the ponegliffs and the final island, but this one came out of left field. Also we have to consider the fact that we know next to NOTHING about Shanks, he has a fondness for Luffy and a chill demeanor, but does that make him a good person? Is he in league with the Celestial Dipshits, and if so what kind of rank or importance does he hold where even the 5 Elders, the HIGHEST among all the Celestial Dragons, grant him favors? My personal theory is that he isn't evil, but that he covertly 'works' for the Celestial Dragons in order to keep the other Emperors from wrecking shit together or against each other, since any one of them has the power to wreck the world. Remember how he stopped Kaido from joining the Paramount War, and stepped in before Blackbeard could destroy Navy HQ after he took Whitebeard's fruit? He also urged Whitebeard not to go to war when they met in the first place. All in all Shanks is definitely sus, and he could very well be another antagonist down the line, Luffy plans to beat ALL the Emperor's, after all.

It should be noted that The Five Elders, while corrupt and the ones responsible for condoning cover ups like at Alabasta and their attempt to do so at Dressrosa, are not unreasonable or even fully malevolent. Unlike other Celestial Dragons, they do not openly threaten those that defy them like Akainu did and they did display remorse for having to wipe Robin's people out. I believe they think they need to do horrible things to protect the order they control. They see themselves as the necessary evil to maintain order, though I think everyone can agree that their methods are flawed and even kind of lazy. I do believe Shanks is a benevolent man and his affections for Luffy are sincere, but he has somehow managed to spin his network into including The highest ranking Celestial Dragons. I think he wants to keep a degree of balancing out power between The WG and Emperors, but hold no opposition to Dragon or The Revolutionaries. With Whitebeard gone and Blackbeard running amok, The Emperors are far more dangerous now as Shanks is the only one they'd even have a shot at getting to sit at a table. "Rox/Rocks" is a very important name that, if memory serves, will come back up during The Wano arc, or rather you'll learn who he was and why history forgot he existed. I think he comes back up around the 950's.

Vice Admirals Gion ( MomoUsagi - "Pink Rabbit" ) and Tokikake ( ChaTon - "Brown Pig" ) have kind of interesting lore. They're both Vice Adrmirals who have been given a epitaph like all Admirals have because they were considered for the Admiral position during the time-skip, but were not selected over Fujitora and Ryukyugu. Tokikake all has an unreturned crush on Gion, he's asked her out at least 100 times since the timeskip, and she has turned him down every time.

The Abyssal Drink

Some people saying Shanks might be in league with the celestials, but honestly I think it's overblown. Shanks is strong and everyone knows it. He was a member of Roger's crew and became an emperor who could take on kaido's crew and survive with not a scratch. He has Mihawk's respect as a swordsman. He doesn't even have a devil fruit cause we know he can swim. This is a man who gave up his arm for a child he knew for only a short period of time. He's just chill and wants to keep shit chill. Can't have parties when people are fucking up the world. If watching crime dramas has taught me anything, people are willing to talk the most dangerous criminals in the world if the criminals are reasonable. Kaido, Big Mom, and Blackbeard are not. Whitebeard kinda. But Shanks? He's cool.

Yea, I had been leaning towards him getting so much respect simply due to his insane abilities. As others have mentioned, there may be more to it than that, but I was thinking it's just a result of his badassery. 😊

The Gorosei are definitely malevolent, it’s just we don’t know to what degrees do they benefit from all their decisions. All we know is that they serve under Im and will sacrifice everyone to keep order in their favor, even at the extent of “Cleansing” Shanks is scheming something based off whatever knowledge he has and definitely seems to have an advantage over everyone else in some manner. Idk if you just watch the anime, but there’s a reason why this theory doesn’t work. Shanks seems to have his own motives and not aligned to any other parties.

Shanks had always seemed suspicious to me. Not in a bad way or anything. Kinda like Doflamingo where he knows too much. Also, more than that, Shanks always seemed like the "chosen one".
