Gintama is a very weird show to try and describe, it's primarily a comedy, but then has really good action later on, and is all over the place in terms of plot and characters. it also takes a while before it really gets off the ground which turns off a lot of people who first give it a try. But yea it's one of those classic anime series that a lot of people probably know about just by watching random clips like this.

Gintama is the perfect combo of comedy/parody and drama/action(and pretty high up in my Top 10 for anime), and oddly starts at episode 3(no joke).
