I mentioned it last season, but the thing i do love about Slime, even moreso than Overlord, is that the series makes it clear that as powerful and OP as Rimuru has become there are still people out there who could stomp him down if he got too arrogant. Guy clearly being one, not to mention Milim. Fortunately for the gang, and quite unfortunately for him, Clayman doesn't appear to be one of them

I've found that I kinda enjoy an OP protagonist because of Slime and Overlord, but I completely agree with you in that the way Slime does it is better storytelling.
