He promised his crew that he would take care of Katakuri and be back. According to Luffy, part of that promise is making sure that the others do not worry about him, so he didn't even let a grunt or heavy breathing be a part of his message to them.

White Lightning

Brulee calling Luffy a short ass was kinda funny. To give a little bit more context canonically Luffy is 174 cm (5'8½") and Katakuri is 509 cm (16'8¼"). The difference in their heights is pretty insane. Oda really seems to like the aesthetic of visual having Luffy fight his larger than life opponents by keeping Luffy a more relatable height. And Luffy getting taller in 4th gear is essentially supposed to be him rising to the occasion.
