im so happy that you love the dialogue in this show, so many reactors just look bored when fists arent flying which really just isnt this shows main deal

Since you made it this far into the show you should be aware that most characters we encountered so far have Divine Protections (blessings that they're born with) Examples mentioned so far: Crusch's Wind Indication which enables her to see and read the wind Otto's Soul Language which enabled him to communicate with all sorts of living creatures Theresia's Sword Saint which draws out the maximum martial skill protentional which guides the user to the most optimal path of victory Since you enjoyed Wilhelm's story, the novel goes into more depths on the snipits we've seen from his past Theresia had 3 brothers who eagerly trained with swords in preparation for receiving the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint when it passed down from their uncle. However it was her who received it, even though she hated using swords. She was also given the Divine protection of the Death God at birth which made any wound she inflicted on other people never heal. Therefore she was scared of battle, scared and appalled at the thought of killing others, and afraid of accidentally harming someone who would then bleed to death. In her first battle she stayed behind out of fear and her eldest brother instead went to fight in the war and died in her place. Therefore Theresia's first battle was considered shameful and so officials hid it from public knowledge, from then on all her brothers and uncle would fight in her place and end up dying as a result. It was only far later until she heard that Wilhelm (who had just been knighted) had disappeared behind enemy lines that she hardened her resolve and went and saved him, and that was her first appearance in a fight years after receiving the divine protection. It also describes that the way the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint guides it's user is by visible rays of white light for the the weapon to follow as the best possible path to victory. Wilhelm had trained to such a degree that those same rays of light cut off before she could follow them by his countering and attacks which is why she lost in their fight at the ceremony
