Yoshitsugu Matsuoka who does the VA for Betelgeuse is really talented, especially in season 2. i remember back before season 1 even aired, i was reading a fan translation of the novels that was relatively correct but they would change character names and Subaru only called the white whale by "moby dick head"

the thing to always remember about Re:Zero is that it doesnt apply this "chivalry in death" thing that most anime do, death is pain and suffering, no matter what it is whether it be torture or losing loved ones, death hurts more, people like the knights dont know that which is why the obey chivalry but Subaru knows all too well thats why he he ran from the whale, there are times when Subaru's hero complex interferes and he has to save people like his suicide in 4B but when he thinks about it for 2 seconds he realises the pain hes about to go through

ok 2 very important things to point out, 1. originally in the cave episode Subaru couldnt see the unseen hands when they were ripping apart Rem, now he can. 2. the witch does not use unseen hand, she shapes shadow magic into hands (we know this because they look different and betty told us satella casts shadows), the unseen hands is something different

Now we see that not only is Subaru physically unable to tell his friends of his power but if he does manage to do it without keeling over in pain then the mysterious force that stops him will kill the person he is trying to tell. On another note I believe Subaru was begging to die was because he doesn't completely understand his ability yet. He wanted to die before he hit another "save point".
