I never had a problem with him in the anime, I actually thought the whole anime was really sweet for the most part, until I saw... well if you know you know, I don’t want to ruin this series for anyone else

* The manga is not translated longer than ch.33 [which is only halfway anime, btw] and I definitely won't be starting to read the LN just to get the full picture of "what's so bad about it" so wiki summary shall be enough
