Yea this episode is an all timer favorite for me, I LOVE this story and how Tenma indirectly managed to bring these two people closer to each other.

Bernhardt learned from the best (at least as far as European armies are concerned) The French Foreign Legion. Their famous for their incredibly harsh training, (which no doubt informs his own curriculum) as well as their morale under fire. Honestly you couldn't ask for a better background for a mercenary.

Not the kind of episode you would expect from a show called Monster. Episodes like this one are a huge part of why this show is so great. I love how human everyone feels throughout the story.

I get a lot of feelings of this being like the chimera episode from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but in reverse. That episode started with hope and happiness and left you in despair. This one started sad and ended hopeful. Oh and ofc both being outstanding episodes that would have been great just by themselves, which is why I link them originally.
