The best kind of Reiner is a suicidal Reiner. He’s literally a meme for the rest of the entire story, he’s still a well developed character

Also, the five years did get through to Reiner, it's just that he wasn't aware of it himself at that moment. But the fact that he had those memory lapses later proves it.

I love how they're taking the time to humanize those who we previously just thought of as enemies with no context to why they did the things they did. Also, this season does a great job of showing the power and dangers of indoctrination. I just end up feeling bad for characters like little Reiner and Gabi who are indoctrinated with the "devil" narrative.

So just a few bits of info here that could help first off in the manga Annie wasn’t Unconscious during the attack on the walls because the jaw got eaten she used her female Titan to carry Reiner and Bertholt to the wall with a hoard of titans chasing them. Also Annie was lurking the capitol to find the true king that had the founding Titan and who was friends with Kenny but at this point Erens dad already killed the family and passed the Titan on to Eren. Then they attacked wall rose and discovered Eren was a Titan, changing their plains once again. Also remember that Reiner developed split personality durring his time so even though he’s saying they’re just devils he really does view them as friends it’s just hard to cope with because his whole life was basically a lie at that point and it’s like well we’ve already come this far there’s no going back. AOT is great at making very human and tragic characters
