The author of Hajime No Ippo, Jyoji “George” Morikawa was really close friends with the Berserk author Kentaro Miura. He took to Twitter and was really depressed about the whole death situation. They’ve probably known each other for around 30+ years. It shows the industry is a really tight knit community.

They actually cut a bunch of stuff from season 3. One of the things is Ippo finding out about Takamura's supposed eye problem before the match and going to talk to the doctor he fought in the movie to talk about it.
