That was a satisfying finish to that fight! Now we need to see if Ippo can't get those muscles & tendons strong enough to survive!

Yup. Curtis pointed out how much Ippo got knocked down earlier in the series, but Ippo's only been downed once since becoming champ. And that was in his first defense fight

The ANTI- (Sawamura steps back to counter) ANTI- (Ippo stops the Dempsey) ANTI- (Sawamura stops the Counter) ANTI- (Ippo ducks the new Counter after first one was stopped) ANTI- (Sawamura throws full Counter at Ippo after he ducks) ANTI- (Ippo stops the Dempsey again to dodge Counter) Dempsey roll was fucking AWESOME!

And that ends the last great fight of the anime in my opinion, too bad there are no more seasons, there are some banger fights int he manga. Mashiba vs Sawamura anyone?

Interestingly enough, this fight somehow always manages to hype me up for the eventual Ippo v Ricardo fight one day. Why is that? The whole season has been about Ippo needing to improve his boxing to fend off challengers who try specifically to counter his style (and the Dempsey roll) in different ways. Shimabokuro tried to slug it out with Ippo, Sawamura’s strategy was to bait the Dempsey with lefts before jumping back and crushing its momentum. What was Ricardo’s grand plan to deal with the same problem? Completely shut it down before Ippo can start by perfectly tracking his head movement (without jumping back!) and landing hard lefts. Yeah, nothing will ever convince me there’s a stronger featherweight in HNI than Ricardo, at least until he fights Ippo.

Love this fight, but the thing that bothers is the fact that Ippo was more angry about Sawamura's boxing style and not about Sawamura punching Ippo's girl. Like it would have been more awesome to me for Ippo to put someone in the hospital for punching his girl instead of "I don't want to lose because I'll make traditonal boxing look bad" reason. I still like Ippo, but why is Kumi the bronze metal behind Boxing and Miyata?
