Attacking from odd angles is confusing but if the boxer wants power, then he has to rely on his trunk, which will remain relatively in the same position, being strained to the max for both offense and defense. This is why Hawk keeps his guard lowered and steps in low with his head leading. He is inviting Takamura to strike at his head, so he won't Attack his trunk, where he is especially vulnerable.
