He needs to remind himself that it was HE who flattened Sendo in the first 10 seconds of the round. That is something to be proud of! Either way, the exchange of blows is awesome!

You know the thing that I hate about Ippo is that his qualities reminds me so much of myself, almost to an eerie level. I struggle with self confidence and I have the same personality. His mom reminds me of mine as well. Hopefully we both can get our acts together!

Or the author needed to remind himself that you can have drama in a fight without the MC shitting himself all the time. But to me its a minor thing in an overall good story.
